Showtime

I was rather pleased to have my wide body on show at my local Porsche dealer's 'Sportscar' event last Saturday. It was parked up in the showroom alongside all the latest stuff and was a nice contrast against the Caymans and Panameras. I was hoping some rich gent would offer me lots of cash to buy it but no such luck. Because the Porsche folks wanted the car the day before the event they kindly loaned me a 19 reg 718 Boxster. I have to say although expecting greatness I was quite underwhelmed by this car. The first thing that struck me was the tyre noise, OK, no sidewalls look good and give great handling, but it was crying out for a bit more side rubber to soak up road imperfections and quieten the road noise down. The car was quite fast but the engine made strange, very un-Porsche like noises and seemed detached from the car. The gearbox shifted with perfection but totally soulless, in fact that is the best way I can describe the car, - soulless, it could have been something Ford or Honda or Mazda had squirted out of their respective factories. And getting back into my 911 for the drive home, oo nice, real car, real feelings.
