356 voltage. 6V or 12V?

On the subject of 6v. I'm going to fit my new ignition switch and thought I would add a relay to bypass the switch for the starter.

This relay should be ok at 20amp? Since once the solenoid switches the current is draw directly from the battery by a big wire?

You probably will get away with a 20A relay but I was worried about amperage effect on the relay and used a 60A one that was cheaply acquired from a motor cycle shop. There are plenty of 30/40A ones around as well. Probably overkill on my part.

Thank you. I had a relay by the starter before and the fuse when 3 times. Once in the mid of France after lunch. I removed that. I also had on in 912 which went recently so I'm not sure about putting one back by the starter. I'm thinking about just using a relay to bypass the switch.

Maybe the relay was too low on Amp tolerance Neil? After lunch in France - life can be cruel! The electrics on these old cars are simple and logical but do not last for every sadly. I have spent a great deal of time on preventative maintenance on mine, replacing old connectors, sockets, leads and anything consumable.
