True story.

I was parked in the paddock at Loton behind this last year, and loving an imp thought I would spark up conversation with the owner. Being of a certain 'tarty' disposition, my race overall are silver/grey and orange to match the car (my race helmet used to be in Gulf colours to match the 914/6 - it's what you do, right?) so I saw my opportunity.

I walked up behind the guy (himself in a black and viper green race suit) who was in polite conversation with someone else and said 'ah, it's nice to see another tart who buys overalls to match his car!'

He looked at me like I was a complete nob and said 'I've no idea what you mean mate, mine is the red 205GTI over there!'

As a result, I don't know what's in it Graham. It does have a rather nifty iPad in a holder in the centre dash though, it is a brilliantly engineered thing.

Eric Morrey, the owner, standing behind with the coffee cup, a really good guy. Turbocharged Imp engine, incredibly quick. :-)

Great story Wayne!
True hill climb stuff. :)

The Imp is powered by an Imp engine, there were 2 there over the weekend, I think one of them does work for Fenn Lane Motorsport, could be wrong.
It has always been really fast, only 998cc. x turbo multiplier of 1.4 = 1400cc ish

His best time was 47.98 secs, he holds the Class Record on 47.17

To put that into perspective, our own Paul Howells 'RSR' ran 44.96 secs and I ran a 47 too over the weekend, both of us with engines over 2.5 x bigger.

The thing corners at undiminished speeds.

One of the things that scares me to death about driving a Mallock type Clubmans car, sitting beside the engine, gearbox and clutch directly in line with whatever mechanical parts happen to make a bid for freedom!

It would appear the input shaft broke allowing the clutch disc to make a bid for freedom, and that the scatter shield wasn't secured with high-grade bolts, allowing it to peel away...

Jonathan, that did happen a few years back, I it was to Maggie Blankstone in her Mallock and she got quite a severe leg injury. When I got the ex Kenny Allen Vision from Deryk Young, he had actually fitted a Makrolon sheet between the clutch and driver’s compartment. Yes it is a bit unnerving reclining beside a full chat race engine, I was lucky as when mine went bang, the Vauxhall engine had the starter motor on the driver’s side and Nr 4 rod hit it rather than me when it came out for some fresh air ;)
