Evening all,
I am a little ashamed to post this one after many years of working on my cars.
I have just fitted a new, genuine Porsche fan belt on my 912. 9.5x825 size.
Even with 8 shims between the pulley halves it is very tight, maybe 8mm deflection, and was hard work to fit. It also sits low in the pulley.
Tell me what numpty error I have made here?
I have the pulley halves the right way round and looking down from above the pulleys look well aligned.
It's late now and I am a little perplexed.
Matt

Re: 912 fan belt fitting
I would check your new belt against your old one for size.
Seems as its a genuine Porsche item, the only thing someone could have changed is the pulley (for a VW one?) as such the pulley may be larger, hence the problem fitting it? With all 8 spacers between the pulley’s it should be flopping around. The tabs are locating between the pulleys correctly?
Not trying to teach anyone to suck eggs...........but you did say it was late at night whilst you were doing this..........

All sound advice.
I'll check again today. Definitely not a VW pulley though.
As far as I'm aware there are no tabs on the Porsche pulleys. That is a VW thing. Always happy to be corrected.
Lots of talk stateside of using an 838 belt. Some reputable names?

Ok,
I am now suspecting that I might not have the correct Dynamo.
Mine is a Bosch 0 101 302 067. Unit.
It seems to have different connectors to the DF and D+ terminals than I might expect.
Can anyone with a 68 check their Dynamo for me and report back with a number? Please!
