While pottering about today fitting and testing the fuel pump on my (1970 911) project car, I idly wondered which fuse it was on. The wiring diagram shows that the answer is "none of them", and in the real world this is true for my car.
There's a direct feed from the battery to the ignition switch. When the ignition is on, the left hand side (on the diagram) of fuses 7 and 8 are live.
Various things (eg fan motor, brake lights) then come off the right hand side of fuses 7 and 8, so are fused. But the fuel pump feed comes off the LHS of 7, so is directly connected to the ignition switch.
Anyone know why? I'm tempted to rewire slightly and make use of my spare fuse position at 5 (spare because I have no sunroof) to route via a suitable fuse, but it strikes me there must be a reason Porsche did it this way? Anyone know why this is a good idea?
Thanks in advance, Richard.
Fuel pump electrical feed not via fuse... why not?

i havent consultated a wiring diagram, but I have often noted how many circuits were still unfused especially in the SWB cars. In your case, I dont see any problem with fusing the pump.
They are fused in later (i.e IB 911's). Just a case of choosing an appropriate amperage, which will depend on pressure (i.e injection vs carb). IB k jet and on injection fuel pumps were 25amp.

CDI box not fused either, nor the instrument lighting even on later years.
