Hi All, I've got a 911 engine I need a little help on, I'm not sure what it is, apart from relatively early. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction for a list of the various engine numbers?
The engine number in question is *9 60117 if anyone can help
Thanks in advance!

Interesting engine!
To confirm what you have there are two other numbers on the engine case behind the engine number.
One of them should be 901/02 and the other one could be 5519 or thereabouts.

Mike

Thank you guys! I will hopefully get down to the barn tomorrow sometime, so will have a look for the other numbers. It sounds about right, I just wish I had the car that was correct for it!

I look forward to your investigation of the other numbers. My engine is 960138 and was built August 66 so you have a very early 1967 S engine. Is it complete?
Regards
Mike

It’s currently a long block, but I think the other components are there somewhere. I have another bare early case too, I’ll check the number on that as well.

A 901/01 engine with that build number 3518 is a very early engine (late 1965) but the engine number should be 903xxx
Any pictures of these numbers especially a close up of the engine number?
Regards
Mike

I agree. I’m not sure the other number hasn’t been tampered with as well. You see the faint 01 between the two numbers.
What is less likely to have been changed (easily) are any date stamps on the cases or other engine parts. They appear as the year of manufacture inside a circle with a number of pips surrounding it, each pip representing a month, so 4 pips for instance would be April.
