Re: Pre A SOS
OK - you have Item 17
I will take a look around for that old bit of tin - it has probably been thrown into the 912 pile or with the European Heater stuff

Re: Pre A SOS
Looking great Phil! I can see that you're almost there.
Al Higdon has reproduced the return spring bolt (part #17). It's that little bolt with the funny head for catching the spring for use with the 40 PBIC (PICB) carbs. You can get it here.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... id=1706124
Also, it looks like your fuel line in your photo above is for the 32PBI carbs. The 40 PBIC (PICB) fuel line has input to the "T" offset a bit more away from the nearest banjo bolt and the curvature over the hump of the fan intake is not as deep, as the whole fuel line sits higher for the taller Solex 40 carbs/manifolds than it does for the Solex 32s on the pre-A. You'll want to do a dry fit of this fuel line as some point. You may have to do some re-bending. =)

Re: Pre A SOS
Thanks James - I'll alert Ian unless I can find a "40" fuel line in the meantime.

Re: Pre A SOS
Finally, 51746 is back in the man cave and ready for re-fitting. Love the adria blue. Very different in different lights. Not quite as stark a contrast to the naked eye as in the photos.
Having put in more hours than I thought possible (actually pretty enjoyable and I learn something new every day), I've managed to source almost all original parts. Presently really only missing original wipers ...if anyone out there has a pair, do please let me know.

Re: Pre A SOS
Ian Clark is putting together my early 54 1500 Super engine.
My heads take the 8mm-stem valves and I have a bent exhaust valve.
- 8mm stem
- 130.6mm length
- I'm told that the part number is 369.05.202.2 or ATE 3937.
Does anyone have any of these unusual 8mm exhaust valves knocking around?!

Re: Pre A SOS
The Pre A ran into some paint problems and had to be stripped and re-painted all over again. Naturally this stalled the project, but it was worth it and I'm very pleased with the outcome. Here are some photos of the car at Spike's Vintage Restoration where Andy Finch and the team did a great job.
