BHP per tonne

I often see this figure being quoted as a good measurement of the power of a car but I have no idea how to work it out - it's not that I don't know how to divide one by the other - I've just no idea on how much a tonne is and how much (say) a 3.2 carrera weighs in terms of tonnes - I seem to remember that they weigh about 1230Kg (but can't be sure)

What's the conversion rate?

1000kg = 1 tonne

Late 3.2 Carrera = 1280kg (1.28 tonnes)

BHP/Tonne = 231/1.28 = 180.47

The 911 Club Sport , which produced over 240bhp and weighed 1160 kg, has a power to weight ratio of c.210 bhp/tonne.

The '73 RS's were putting out something in the order of 215 bhp/tonne so not a lot of progress along the way!
