That Darren has posted up. I'm not sure I like the look, but I got to drive it when it was for sale last time round and it is an absolute blast. Literally made me laugh. Very very chuckable and responsive. Big money, but fabulous to drive! I've no interest in it (other than wondering if it could be in my garage), but thought I'd share my experience.

Speaking to Nick a few days ago he mentioned that although there has been a fair amount of interest after the Classic Porsche feature, and a few offers declined by the seller, this car is still available...... viewtopic.php?f=21&t=49656 ....

....one of those 'try building it for the money' type of cars...... no doubt a great car but it hasn't sold yet so is it a sign of a slow market or just priced incorrectly?

The car was built a year ago to a very standard and has done minimal mileage since.

Based on a 1978 SC it was built to resemble a 74 Carrera with some modern day upgrades…..putting out a very conservative 275BHP+ it's very quick, sounds gorgeous, has an excellent set up and drives superbly……for those seeking even more power, all port work has been done and a simple upgrade from 2.8 to 3.0RSR cams would see the engine produce in excess of 300BHP.

Specification includes:

Body:
Stripped to bare rolling shell, new steel wings fitted, headlamp washer delete, duck tail and full restoration paint finish in original colour.
Interior:
Black leather seats with new carpet set and rebuilt to early SC specification.
Chassis, Brakes and Suspension:
Reconditioned hubs, new bearings, new Bilstein shock absorbers, all new seals and bumper bellows as needed, fully reconditioned brakes with new discs and 4 pot Boxter calipers. Reconditioned 15" 7 & 8" Fuchs fitted with new Toyo T1R 205/55 and 225/50 tyres front and rear.
Gearbox:
Fully rebuilt replacing all bearings, dogs, syncros, seals and gaskets as required and fitted with a Quaife limited slip differential.
Engine:
Redtek rebuild taking 3.0SC to 3.2 with 98mm Mahle barrels and pistons with 10.3:1 compression ratio.
42mm heads and ports. New valves and guides. Twin spark ignition.
RSR cams and shot peened rockers. Rocker shaft seal kit fitted.
Case boat tailed, crank assembly balanced and ARP rod bolts fitted.
993 Dillivar head studs.
New S fan shroud and GRP black trays.
46mm PMO induction system with K+N air cleaners with flat tops.
Canems management system with custom engine loom.
Lightweight sports clutch and flywheel.
Single outlet exhaust with free flow silencer and SSI heat exchangers.































































The subtle exterior of this car belie its potency and this car needs to be driven to be appreciated….a very easy to live with hot rod, the handling is superb yet compliant, it sounds delicious without being obtrusive, braking ability is to modern performance standards with a precise, reassuring feel and the engine pulls like no tomorrow……all in all, a very intoxicating combination.

The cost to build a car to this specification today would exceed in excess of £70,000 and for those looking to build similar, the sale price of £79,950 represents a considerable saving.

.....agree visually it was a little 'plain' although has now Carrera graphics added which I think improves the look.....

Bright frames, handles, mirrors and headlight rims, anodised petals and taller tyres and I reckon it would have sold.

At the moment it's just the wrong side - more just 'SC with a ducktail' than '74 Carrera'.

And the decals are too high. And the bonnet doesn't fit right. And the bottom bit of the front bumper has too much stonechip. And the gearstick needs painting. And is there something odd going on with the centre dash vents? Etc.


Even in a tighter market top money is always out there if the details are right. If you can fault the car you can't ask top money. The last 1% is often worth 15% on the price.

I think that would be a great car at the right price. I would fix or lose the side script and refurb the wheels with silver petals etc. I think that car would be a giggle.

Should have painted it a bright colour. I understand it’s the original but so much has changed it’s not the original anymore. I’m not sure a white impact bumper gets the heart racing...

I had a similar looking car ( stolen) but with green wheels/ Carrera stripes - much more interesting IMO

So how much is it form and how much function? You can't see the wheels and the decals when driving it!

But you would see the Exige, Caterham, M2, Focus RS, Atom, Cayman R, R8 etc disappearing off into the distance.

You can get an awful lot of function for half as much. An old 911 is as much about form.
