Mix 4:1, small foam roller as per that video on your other thread. Brush into the seams and around the welds. I used a panel wipe before applying.

Hopefully doing it immediately after welding whilst the steel is shiny stops that annoying flash rust forming.

Job for today was the other inner wing, but avoiding the oil pipe area as it looks like hard work!

Less rot than the other side, but still needed the whole flange and the rearmost bit.






Parcel shelf next as I want to put that big bit of new metal in!

Looks nice Gary.
I might be wrong, but the engine opening side lips to take the rear wings I think are curved and not straight.
If so you will need to put a gentle curve in your repairs?
Just put a long steel rule down mine and there is a 3mm 'crown' along the length from the top corner to the rear cross member side fillets.
If you check your new wings I think they have a gentle curve.

No problem Graham, mine were apparently straight, but there wasn’t much left for reference. I’m imagining an amount of ‘dressing’ will be required once I get some 1/4s on.

I can’t fully weld the lower section of the flange as I need to be able to get the rear xmbr out so it needs to flex a bit.

The top of the bulkhead has suffered due to some appalling bodge done 15 years ago... so that needs to be replaced.

I need both rear outer quarters, I’ve been putting that purchase off! Do you have some going spare?

It’s bad, but manageable. Other side of the inner wing is ok, this side the shelf wasn’t even attached as the whole flange had rotted away.

Now the shelf is out I can understand how it’s constructed and see how to repair it. I’ve left the very edge in place for reference until I come to put the new panel in. I’ve got a replacement for the vertical part under the screen as well so not too much fabrication to be done. Would be nice to have a spot welder at this point!

The lower corners are tricky, but I’ll get there some how. I’ll weld bracing across the screen aperture before doing them.

The rear corners are what I've just done.
The repairs would have been easier and much quicker if I had a cutting disc, the small dia and 1mm think ones.
Also, a stretcher/Shrinker would be worth the £120 to curve those flanges.

Also found the radius of my angle grinder disc was just bigger than the radius of the corner, so can't get in to fully dress the mig welds.
Hard to justify these expenses....

Might want to consider a “powerfile” for the tight areas? £28 for an electric silverline (not as powerful motor as B&D but those are £40+ & have a motor sticking out the side) or £27 for an air powered version. (Amazon prices).
