what is the secret?
I was fitting the rear anti roll bar over the weekend. Does anyone have any tips on how to get the circular bush that fits over to the ball fitting on the trailing arm, into the drop link housing itself?
The bushing is made of quite rigid white plastic and so there isnt much/any give in it and pressing it into the drop link just squashed and deformed the bush. It didnt make any effort to go into the hole. I tried lubricating the bush which didnt help, i tried to push it in using a bolt to prevent distortion of the bush, All to no avail. Nor does it look like the bush is made of the sort of material you could warm up to make it more malleable.
Any tips on how to push it into the drop link housing without ruining the bush by crushing it would be welcome.
Andrew.

I preloaded mine with a G Clamp to the point it was about to break.
Then clouted it with a 3x2

Re: what is the secret?
I squeeze mine on the ball using a 10" G clamp, it opens just wide enough.
Blob of grease too.
It will then be loose enough to 'fail' the MoT!

I have used the wooden shaft of a hammer then hit the head of the hammer with a bigger hammer. I think you will struggle to get your mallet in. A 18" long bit of wood is fine and pokes out around the spring plate area so you can get a good swing at it.Dougieboy1 wrote:thanks, sounds like shock treatment rather than the pressure method i was employing - 'short sharp shock' to quote from Pink Floyd.....

Re: what is the secret?
A cup off hot water did it for me. It helps if they are new shiny drop links rather than rusty ones. Same trick then to make then pliable enough to slip over the ball when fitting to the car. The blob of grease you put in the bush won’t be washed out by the hot water. I just used the palm of my hand and a good shove.

Doubt the factory used a big hammer.
Hot boiling water sounds good to me.
