Engine Temp Sensor 616 107 805 02

My 1960 356B 6V Temperature sender has given up the ghost!

The PET gives part number 616 107 805 01

I ordered through OPC the part has been superseded by 616 107 805 02

The new part is 30mm longer than the original and I don’t think it fits in the case (too long)

I also read if it does fit then the gauge has to be re-calibrated (Stoddard) !

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Ray,

I would call PRS, Karmann Konnektion etc for the part rather than going to your OPC, the wife probably knows more about 356s than they do!

I've personally never bought any parts from the OPC near me.

+2 for PRS. I got a temp sender from Paul. He has a box of different types and was prepared to iterate until I got a good match

I had some trouble with this a while ago. There are two types of sender, as you have noted, and they both behave differently at different temps. One type reduces in resistance as the temp goes up, and the other increases in resistance as the temp goes up.

Obviously you need the correct one. As far as I know the one available from OPCs increase in resistance with temp.

I ended up buying a cheap oil temp gauge from Ebay for about £8, which included a sender. I took the guts out of my combo gauge, and made a threaded adaptor to fit the new sender to my existing oil distribution block. I think that there is a thread somewhere about it on DDK.

Yes agree with Hendrik try PRS or Roger Bray

My older Roger Bray catalog shows the 6v oil temp sender code 0824131021 at £138- incl VAT.

Phone them on 01404 822005 and ask them the length of the item and confirmation it will fit the 356B

They do not say anything about calibration in this old catalog.

Thats not a cheap item? Maybe PRS has a second hand one.
