Re: Off topic watch chat for the horologists out there
For sale. 1965 Enicar Sherpa Divette

Hi Ladies, here we have a fabulous Enicar Sherpa Divette that comes with a fascinating tale.
The previous owner whilst diving off the coast of Hawaii in 1969 was subjected to an unprovoked attack by a giant barracuda that rather fancied his watch .

Sharks and aggressive fish are attracted to shiny objects and sparkly steel bracelets aren't a great idea whilst diving, so our diver attached a grey a plastic ' Tropic '
style sports watch band to the watch. He managed to fend off the toothy monster with a divers spear ( as you do ) but the strap was contaminated by fish blood and guts,
some of which remains to this day on the strap fastener . It won't come off and serves as a salutary lesson to future owners and is included in the very reasonable
asking price of £ 950.00 inc. post in the UK

Manufacturer. Enicar
Model. Sherpa Divette
Country of manufacture. Switzerland
Year. Circa 1965
Movement. Enicar AR1145 24 jewel automatic. Can also be wound manually. A great movement
Case. S/ steel EPSA bayonet release Enicar Brevet 314962 Super Compressor (pre Seapearl back )
Bezel. Rare metallic titanium colour ( usually black ), Bi directional, smooth, nice and tight.
Inner red aluminium bezel – working well and intact ( they are usually lost or broken )
Crown. Original Enicar cross hatched over planet Saturn ( Enicar logo )
Hands. Original thick easy to read piano tuning fork style
Seconds hand. Original fine needle type with a lollipop tip
Lume. Not working now but turning to a nice vintage creamy colour
Date. Works perfectly
Quickset by setting to the next date, then forward and back between 8.00 and 12.00 o clock
Size. 36 mm excluding the crown
Crystal. Acrylic
Waterproof. Not now but was to 600ft. A good watchmaker could re seal the case if required.
Box. No
Papers.No
These early single crown Divette's are much rarer than the later twin crown model and due to the nature of the watch tend to be a bit battered.
My pics are larger than life size and show every one of it's + 50 years exciting life. On the wrist it would pass as just a few years old.
It's correct in every detail and the nicest example I've ever seen.

Got to say I'm struggling to see 50 year old fish blood and guts on the strap though

I do understand exactly what you mean sladey, I really do. Sometimes you just have to believe.sladey wrote:Got to say I'm struggling to see 50 year old fish blood and guts on the strap though
The mysterious red mark is faint but still there, and it won't come off however hard I try.
Every time I wear this watch I'm overcome by a very distinct smell of salty sea air and a yearning for ----
well, a distinct longing for ----- a fish supper.

For Sale: Omega SpeedMaster Professional Moonwatch 31130423001005
I am the original owner , I purchased this new in June 2017. It still has manufacturer warranty until Jun 2019.
It has only been lightly used as in is excellent condition.
This is 100% complete set , as can be seen in the photo's. The only bit I have used is the watch itself. I put in on my own strap from new , so the factory metal bracelet and Nato strap have never been used.
Asking for £2650. Watch can be viewed either in London (the City) or Sussex , near Gatwick Airport
PM me if you have any questions.
Thanks.

Watchmaker help please
My mum died recently and left for my son her dads old pocket watch that doesn't work. As he was a fitted for the lekky board it's not going to a Harrison or Patek. But I would like a steer on someone who could take a look over it and perhaps give it CPR and a clean. I can ship it but it's currently in Sth London
Thanks

Re: Off topic watch chat for the horologists out there
I recently used a chap called Stef based in North London to service my speedmaster. He came recommended off the omega forum. He is a watch repairer by day and does private work part time. There is also someone in West Norwood that was recommended to. Pm me for details. Both where about 300 for a full serviceTosh wrote:Watchmaker help please

Problem is that it's going to be very uneconomical to repair and maintain as there is very limited market for pocket watches.
It's nuts, but old pocket watches are up for sale on ebay for less than the postage costs.
Why not just keep it and enjoy it in it's current condition as once it's serviced it will require future servicing as well.
The value in these watches relates to their history, looks and charm rather than their time keeping abilities. The movements in
pocket watches are easy to access, so maybe in the future your son could try fixing it himself ?
If he breaks something else replacement complete working movements would be relatively cheap to source

Are those horrific Bamford monstrosities classed as watches?
