911t 1970 advice needed

Hi all,

I have my eye on a 911t but unsure about how much I should pay?

The owner has passed away suddenly so dealing with his wife and want to offer a fair price for both of us.

It’s matching numbers and rust free but unsure about following issues
No history at all other than imported in 1998
Speedometer only has 1054m as owner sent off for repair and they reset it.
Colour change to silver but done properly
Does need respray as lots of scratches and two small bubbles
Not original seats and I don’t mean recovered.
Carpet does not fit properly
All chrome needs replacing or restoring
Needs front windscreen
Bottom of doors sit perfectly but tops are way out?

Also wandering where I get parts to restore?

Looks a nicer car than you described, although the value really depends on the condition of the bodywork ( rust) .... this is the area that can really suck up cash

Very solid underneath, paint work not too bad but lots of marks.
Drives well, but I would do a windows out respray and replace all seals etc.

Where can I source parts?

What would you expect to pay for this?
My concern is no mileage history

Hi Andrew,

Welcome to DDK.

The car looks pretty good from your photos although there are too many variables to give you an accurate idea. Prices can range from £20K for a rusty project to £100K for a mint fully restored or perfectly original car.

If it drives well and is pretty solid I would suggest at least £30-£40K but that could go either way, wheels look potentially replicas.

Probably best to get a specialist to do an appraisal to be fair to both parties.

At £25k I’d suggest your stealing it. You can’t pick up a correct numbers matching running early 911 for that. Rotboxes in need of full restos go for that these days.

We need more comprehensive pictures really to judge its condition and value...

My two penny’s worth, however I am a newby to this game, there are many more qualified to help on here than I.
First off, what do you won’t the car for ?

A, investment
B, project with you paying someone else for the bulk of the work.
C, project with you carrying out the work.

If it’s A forget it, generally what the collector is looking for is originality, the day it came out of the showroom, matching numbers, books, and the all important history. Alternatively it as to have had a proven background, maybe in racing etc.

B, This will no doubt cost more than the car is worth, be prepared to wait for the right people to do the jobs, these guys can be booked for months, I have had to wait nearly two months for a small repair, I could have had it done weeks ago by someone else, I have done that in the past poor job ended up costing me more to put the work right by the proper people. So do your homework and wait for the right guys, don’t base your decisions on glossy web sites, brochures, and workshops. In fact it’s my experience , untidy workshops, no brochures, hardly a web presence is a good starting point and if you won’t to be addressed as sir and be offered tea and biscuits, buy a new one and go to a main dealer.

C, could be a great project, again probably spend more than the cars worth, but spend a few quid and get someone to go and have a look first.

IMO there’s no such thing as a cheap Porsche, with regard to values don’t go on the asking prices on the web, just like a house what was asked and what they actually sold for can be quite different.

With regard to spares wouldnt worry to much, google is your friend and there’s plenty on here who can help.

My best mate owns/runs a very good mechanic business, and another mate specialises in restoring e type jags and is the best sprayer I know so intend on using their expertise.

I just think the old 911 looks awesome and fancied one

If you can get it for £25-£30k then I’d buy it.

If you have contacts for body and paint and you’re wanting a fun car then even better.

A Porsche you can drive and have fun in is imho much better than a shiny ornament

Parts .... depends what you need. A lot can come from Porsche these days, and not always as expensive as you might think. Good used parts are out there but you need to ask about on places like ddk
