indicators/electrics
Hi. I'm trying to figure out why only one side of my car's indicators is working.
all fuses are fine, but no voltage at bulbs. Relay clicks happily for the side that works but doesnt for the other side. I therefore assume the problem is between relay and switch
I've taken the steering column shroud off and cant see any problem with wiring. Similarly I cant see anything obvious like a loose wire, etc
Does anyone have any ideas on further tests I can do? Would be good if I could somehow test the switch itself but not sure how.
Any all thoughts gratefully received.
Cheers
Will

Re: indicators/electrics
Possibly dumb question - does it have a hazard switch? If so does it work through the same relay or a separate one?
If the same, it will rule in/out the switch and if different it might rule the relay in/out..

Re: indicators/electrics
I'd be checking the earth on the side that's not working first.....

Hi. Thanks for the replies. No, it doesnt have a hazard light. Robin, do you mean the earths at the indicator units themselves? I've checked both and also checked that there is no power arriving at the bulbs. Where else would I check that the indicators on that side of the car are earthed? Cheers. Will

Yes, I've found that bad earths cause more problems than faulty cable/wiring. Firstly is the inside of the housing where the indicator bulb fits a good connection? A suprising amout of dirt, then corrosion happen in the bulb socket making a bad earth. Clean it out, then see, after that using a mulitmeter are you getting a good earth from the bulb earth through to chassis. IMO the earth side of the circuit needs checked first before starting to trace faulty wiring or relays. Have you tried swapping over the relays first to see if that works?scalino65 wrote:Hi. Plural? thats interesting! am i being totally stupid? Isnt there only one relay that controls all the indicators?

Sorry - bit of brain fade, many of the circuits can be checked on a 911 by swapping over relays to see if a relay is the fault of the circuit. What year is the car? Have you checked the indicator stalk still works and makes a connection?

Re: indicators/electrics
Hi, thanks Robin. My car is a 67s. If I could test the stalk/switch that would at least elimate/confirm that part of the chain. Trouble is, I dont know how to do it and which wire is which on the control - there seems to be four wires each on top and bottom of the switch. Does anyone have a diagram/pic/explanation that tells me which one is which?
Many thanks
Will

Re: indicators/electrics
Send me your email and I'll send you a good 67S wiring diagram - might have a spare indicator stalk I could lend youscalino65 wrote:Hi, thanks Robin. My car is a 67s. Re: indicators/electrics
Hi Robin thats very kind of you, will PM.
One other question, is there any way that the flasher relay might only work for one side of the car's indictors? I would assume this is impossible, i.e. if you hear it clicking when left indictor is on but not when the right indicator is on, it cant be the relay that's faulty?
cheers
