You can certainly pick up both permanent 12V feed and switched feed off the back of the ign switch
I was just thinking that. If I run the permanent live feed off the power going in and the switched off feed off the power going out. Although will the immobiliser affect the permanent live feed coming in?

I should be able to draw a suitable diagram of the back of the ign switch. It is at home, so will be this evening. OK ?
Immobiliser is usually independant of these things and doesn't get in the way.

Hmm, I give up drawing a diagram, but can describe.... here goes

As you look at the back of the switch, there is the a ring of contacts with one in the middle. This should have a yellow wire with red trace. Use a piggy back spade to join the switched 12V feed to the Head unit.
The contact furthest from the steering column is the other one you need. It is actually two contacts joined together. There should be Red on one and a Red with white trace on the other. Use a piggy back blade on one of these for the Permanent feed.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the help. Finally my brain is starting to get to grips with this. Off to Maplin this afternoon with a shopping list of stuff.
