I have a chance to buy a US 1967 S, matching numbers, in restored, in excellent condition. 70k miles from new, engine never been apart.

Asking $250k USD. Does this sound about right?

Price will depend on originality and who did the restoration and how well it was done and if matching transmission original colour etc. There would need to be a comprehensive photo archive supported by receipts of the work done. I think the price is there or thereabouts but without seeing pics or knowing a considerable amount more about the resto then it's guesswork? That said Im sure a 67S needing resto is $150k now??

I’m being told the car is unrestored, original 67k miles, 4 owners, southern dry state, garaged and maintained all it life. Excellent providence. Has won US shows.

To be fair , £200k purchase is a huge one and if it’s purely about investment and return you should really do a bit more research on the model

agreed no doubt an unrestored car is worth more than a restored car.

Please make sure you get details on any repairs that have been done, while not possibly seen as restoration, is equally as important. I.e. if there have been "repairs" to sills, b pillar, floors, or front wings rear panels either from corrosion or accidental then these would need to have been done properly, and backed up with photo evidence. Any "repairs" because of corrosion may also mean there are other areas, many hidden or hard to find that might be affected. The big bonus would be if the paint is original - in that way you can be fairly certain the car is rust, or close to rust free.

My 67S, while unrestored had many repairs over the years, some done badly, which are now corrected. My car still has orignal floors and inner sills, parel shelf etc. but still had to spend 150hrs in tidying up old repairs and repairing many "iffy" areas, front and rear screen scuttles, outer sills, lower door panels.

You'll need to do a very comprehesive inspection. Cant wait to see pics......

Good luck but do you not see any pitfalls? You are buying an expensive asset from another country full of Porsche experts but you are having to ask what it's worth in a public forum?
