1973 targa

Post by 210bhp »

I meant to post up a link to this car yesterday but ran out of time. No matter, it’s sold now inside 48 hours of being posted which would confirm what I thought from the photos, it is a very nice example with lots of patina, original paint and interior and some very nice panel gaps which only an original body seems to demonstrate. It looked like a long term careful owner (and only two owners in total). These are the cars which are getting very few and far between now and anyone looking for a pre impact car would have done well to snap this one up.

Unfortunately it’s already gone but the photos are good a reference for an original car. Check out those nylon sill trim kick plate rivets!

Advertised at $79000 ono. Having tracked their sales for a few years there isnormally about 10% haggling room on the advertised price.

Sounds like a good price - have come close to buying a couple of cars from them in the past.

That was tempting too.

No Mike, a couple of Sportos - a one-owner 2.2T which I didn't buy because it was red  & a 2-owner Tangerine 2.0T (I was too slow/asking for specific details/photos & someone local bought it).

I'm sure there was also a '69S that I negotiated on but Steve (don't know if he's still the owner of Carplanet) & I couldn't agree on a mutually-acceptable price ...

It's certainly interesting to see, a couple of things I'd not seen before:

The extra tow eyes on each corner, is that a US thing?

The reinforcement under the bonnet badge, original?

So after your question Jon I went off looking for photos of other examples of those features as I was sure I have seen both before but alas I can’t find any, yet.....

I think the badge ‘reinforcement’ is actually like a small square of sticky bitumen type tape, perhaps an attempt to stop the speed nuts from working lose. I have definitely seen it before. Homemade, factory or dealer? I don’t know.

The tow hooks I felt sure I had seen before, on one side at least, but can’t find any definite photos yet...... those ‘bilateral’ hooks certainly look factory wouldn’t you say from their features including a little light ivory paint peeking through.

I’ll keep looking for pictures.

Regards
Mike
