Sourcing 912 engine.

Guys.We have the opportunity to purchase a 912 from a friend.Whilst am familiar, with the various 911 engines.I know nothing of the 912.The engine is missing, albeit,
The original cases are present.
Obviously, id like to use these cases,so numbers match.Engines, appear on Ebay, from time to time, although many are not complete.Naturally a UK purchase
would be preferable.Any guidance or advice, as always gratefully received.

I guess it all depends on whether the cases are the originals and usable and then what's missing. Worth trying both Max at Revival and PRS initially once you know what you are looking for.

Here is the catch 22. Many parts are in the states. (In fact I'm pretty sure I just saw Rod Emory get delivery of about 50 used cases). But with an engine you don't know how much you should pay until you, or an expert, have had a proper looked to it. However, there are some very good good engine builders in the US that could build your a turn key engine for less than here but then you have to get it back and pay duty/vat.

Max/PRS are very helpful but sometimes vendors are inclined to hang onto their good engine bits for those that will play for them to do the build. Another good engine builder name to consider is Ian Clark.

I am not sure how many 912 Motors we have in stock as opposed to 356 units but the total is in excess of 60 Engines from NOS to Cases only

The only ones that we reserve are those that belong to RHD Cars and should be reunited with their body

i had some Cases off Jim at Easy years back.. supprising how much Porsche stuff you could fit in the boot of a Mercedes w108

Neil is right the lot has now been cleared out and I doubt your get Jim's prices on those cases.. but hey ho it's how the world goes round..

I was collecting all the parts to make a twin plug motor all those years back.. but it came to a stop. Might get back into it..
Between John Lucas and Jim's haul I did manage to get a lot of stuff togeather.. shame I lost my parts from John's place that a well known parts supplier .......stole. Unknowingly I might add to that. I didn't go chasing for parts on John's passing.. gave the family time for their loss and when I did make a call to collect my parts, turns out the lot had gone!! to Devon/Dorset.. chances of getting them.. Zero. Respect to buy from there again.. also ZERO.

and the world turns another turn Miss John and Betty nice folk..

would it be worth holding onto the original cases and either buying a "crate" type 1 or building a type 4 for it? kind of 4-cyl hotrod..
guess it depends what you want to do with the car overall I guess..

Ref EasyPor yes Such a shame to have a corner stone of Porsche life in the US go.. I am so pleased I met up with Jim from time to time with my trips over there.. He is a lovely bloke to chat to.. and really helped me with my 65 car when I needed a donar part.. I needed the floor section that meets the bulk head. and the floor of the smugglers box area.. not easy to remake but on a trip over he had a whole nose clip sat waiting for me!!!

I just needed to cut out the part I needed... coffee in hand and an air saw I was chopping away happy I had the tools to fix the car back home..

One of my more un-usual parts I had in my suit case though customs LOL!!!! I bet that raised eye brows at the X ray machine!!

anyway fitted perfect and yes it's a shame some one else has packed in .. I think Jim has always been abit agrieved the other lot round the corners doing very well with modern day Porsche parts was infact his ex employies..
