My take is Darren's car is free of the Q threat (and maybe having to pass the BIVA), but I can't remember all the mods carried out.
Tweeked engine is only 2 points, so nothing.

The big/only real issue is a modified shell, 5 points are gone and impossible to get your '8' thus IVA/Q for your car, IF you can get a 40 odd year old 911 to pass the current IVA.

Fail the IVA and your car will not have a log book, or a Q plate, just a pile of parts, or a 100% competition car and will be MoT exempt! And you will be charged £450 for this.

Not long to November and we will see how serious this is, but I'm not holding my breath.
After November, it will be time to have the car pre-IVA'd (it is possible), a good precaution I feel.

And now all this is out, selling a modified classic will be very hard at today's market value due to the black cloud over these cars, and there are lots of them about.

The press/media are all focused on MoT exemption at the moment, why I'm not sure as I doubt DVLA will change anything at all. Those now moaning should have spoken up 2 years ago,, the modified 'stage' has yet to come, but the majority will not care a dam by then.

Before anyone says I'm a pessimist, just show me where the optimism is in this situation?

Don't forget the 8-point rule is nothing new. It isn't. It's been with us for the last 29 years. Half the articles being posted on line make out this is something new. The only difference is that now it seems that it's being enforced more stringently, with some cars (rods in particular) being stripped of their V5s. There is also evidence that DVLA is slowing down on issuing paperwork for some cars being imported into the UK as 'historic'.

If the worst came to the worst and a highly-modified 911 did need to go through IVA, I don't think it would necessarily be an insurmountable problem. If a 1950s Ford Pop running a blown V8 can get through it, then a relative modern like a 911 will be able to pass, too. For many older cars, it's the glass which is the problem, as it must meet (and be marked accordingly – and not just with a carefully faked etched marking...) current standards. For cars like the aforementioned Ford Pop, the answer there is to buy a modern Land Rover windscreen and have it cut down, taking care to make sure the E marks are still fully visible. There are ways round most of the requirements if people put their minds to it.

We've had it incredibly easy until now compared to some countries. I just found out this morning from a post by a Caterham owner that you can't colour change a modern car in Norway, for example. Ouch.

OK, here we go...

DVSA has stated that it does NOT regard the rear wings as structural, even though they are welded in place, as there is an inner wing which forms part of the unitary body. What is interesting is that the contact knew instantly all about the 911 body structure and how it is regarded as far as BIVA is concerned. So you're safe with RS/RSR/ST arches on a hot-rod 911!

Interestingly, he did mention a Carrera that was refused historic status on import because the aftermarket rear wheels allowed the tyres to protrude 3mm outside the arches. It was resubmitted with some original wheels fitted and it got the nod...

Despite what many are saying about there's no way the DVSA can possible know all about these cars, they know far more than people realise. It is known that they have a large database of photos of rods, etc, taken at shows, for instance...

That Heritage Insurance article is in-dated, and I suspect is quite old. I read it about a month ago and it raised my hopes, but...

I think the DVLA will ask if the car to be taxed is "modified" not "significantly modified"

This takes out any interpretation, a mod is a change to standard, thus (say) re-enforced jacking points are a modification.

Not sure the DVLA will see the Modified word in this perspective, but most mods on classics are to improve the car, why would you modify a car to make it worse (than original)

Maybe there will be a help line to call before answering the question?
