Thinking about values of steering wheels

Hello

I am thinking about the value of an original steering wheel from my 356 - it have a horn ring and horn button in the middle.

It is in average used condition but working and would be good to bolt straight in or perfect for a restoration.

I am wondering what these go for and is there a scale of values to go from

Any advice would be appreciated

Mine is not is restored / new condition but the same as the following

356A wheel £1740

full horn ring £209

recessed horn button £190

So that is pretty much the same but in used condition !! I do not think mine is worth that level but certainly food for though !!

I find the whole scale of values for steering wheels baffling. I have a Nardi wood rim dished 3 spoke wheel and might be interested in buying an original but prices seem all over the place.

The Nardi is nice and looks nicely sporty, but I have no idea how much it is worth. Similar wheels on The Samba classifieds seem to be $500 - $1000...

It depends on a number of factors including age, diameter, Factory-supplied or aftermarket, condition (inc horn button, etc) ...

Agreed! The early flat, large diameter Nardis look lovely, the later dished smaller ones like they fit to MX5s and the like never look quite right, especially with the fatter rim.

Steering wheels to me are a funny thing, I always prefer to buy a car with its original steering wheel, but I love the look and feel of a nice woodrim but at the moment all mine are hanging on the wall!!!

So this has just confused me totally !! I had to shell out quite a lot for get the gearbox drive shaft sorted - thanks for your help Ian

So selling the steering wheel was meant to help me sort out that cost !!

I do like my flat Nardi of the correct size in preference to the original which I find too thin !

The costs do seem to be extortionate at one point and then extremely cheap - Ian and Keith, you £25 purchase prices much have been many years ago !!!

Ian - we will need to have a chat about this !!

In the meantime I might give it a good clean up and then look for what other parts I have that I could sell instead !!!

At least this has opened up an interesting conversation, I think people will pay if they really need / want it - which must be where KK does best ??

It all depends on the condition of the steering wheel and horn button.
Remember KKs are reproductions not originals, I haven't seen the wheel but there are differences on the reproduction horn buttons I've seen when compared to the original.
A wheel can be around the £1000 mark (I think) if nice, a nice original horn button could easily be up to £500. However if it has cracks then price comes quickly down. Horn ring is maybe £400?

I sold a decent bare 356A wheel last year for £500, it sold quickly but I only had one person interested.

This is all great information and confirms my hunch that it would be worth a bit

I just need to find someone doing a refurb in the UK who does not want to pay the extortionate taxes from the States !!
