Thank Roy - That's a useful article. Yes, I was just interested in how much a good 6 Volt battery dropped off on turning over the starter. More out of interest than anything. I'm going to have a crack at checking earths and connections on the bank holiday.

I read in a number of places a fully charged properly functioning 12 volt would show about 12.6 volt. On turning over the engine it would drop to no less than 9.6 volt. Then when the alternator kicked in back up to something like 14.5 volt.

Mike's comment about how a 1.5 volt drop on a 6 volt battery was significantly more serious than on a 12 volt system just set me thinking.

Interested also to do the resistance check.
