Do more early bonnet/hoods fit my car?

Post by proloForet »

Hello every person.
I am sorry to waste your time if this is covered already but my search efforts sometimes are bad because I am improving my English but not very good at it.
I have the opportunity to take a bonnet/hood (which is correct?) from a 1971 911 that someone offer to me. It has some errors to tend to but I can do with time.
My question is before I give the money is to clarify if this bonnet can fit to a 1988 911 (for a potential backwards project that my mind is spending time on since the discovery of the backdating possibilities in the forums I have joined)?
I understand that I have the option to change the slam panel or not but otherwise ok to fit directly?
The seller assure me yes, it is all I need to do or not even if I accept to modify to use current slam panel and adapt the safety catch.
I plan is to take now because good price but keep until after winter when I am sure or not to do the body change backwards. If I decide not, I sell.
Many thank you for advice if you have some.
Léo
Merci & cdl

Will fit shape wise but as you say the latch panel is located differently. You can buy early look fibreglass panels with later latch panel location. Or what I did was have my late steel bonnet extended to look like an early bonnet, thereby retaining the latch panel location. Only place that I know that does this service is in the UK called Fenn Lane Motorsport.

If it's a good price then it's probably worth buying anyway. If you don't use it you can always sell it on and maybe make a few €s

Thank you Nige, it is much what I thought. I know this company, Fenn Lane because I take a sunroof deleting panel from them this week. They have good reviews on their pieces.
I am curious, how is it that with the long piece that you now reach the latch to free the bonnet?
Merci & cdl

Extend the safety catch/lever by about 25-30mm (the bit that you reach under the bonnet push to release) It doesn't make it awkward/difficult to open then.
