Get out of my back garden ya feckers

Enjoy the rest of the day tomorrow and watch out for the speed camera vans and un-marked police car/bikes up on the EVO triangle as they're clamping down a lot up there recently.

So the view from the hotel the next morning was no less spectacular,

Image

....mind you when I opened the curtains on my side the view was pretty good!

Ferry Man had spotted a waterside location for an after breakfast photo opportunity, so before setting off for Snowdonia he worked his magic, especially on a certain Chartreuse RS......
cheers, Mike.

Great photos & write up - thanks.

It's a long time since I've driven many of those roads - think I need to re-address that sometime soon ...

...so the next wonderful road I followed them up was a beautiful section on the edge of Snowdonia, wonderful sweeping hairpins again with great sight lines.

The boys did say we should turn around and go back over the same section, but that it was a bit more scary going downhill...... Mitch was short changing in
the RS as he was low on fuel, that would have been changing at 6500 rpm then instead of his normal 7200, wondered why I was finding it easier to keep up...

Fuel stop in Bala.

After the fuel stop another great section was across country but this time narrow twisty roads with high hedges, have to say I hate carrying speed into blind corners
but the boys kindly waited for me. Actually I think they waited for me as of course by now it was two hours since breakfast so time to eat again, and I was paying.......

Image

What a wonderful place, I'm sure Ferry Man will be on to say where it is! They'd been before to eat in the fantastic restaurant but sadly today they were closed...
until of course they saw the wonderful cars pulled up outside and immediately welcomed us in for great coffee and shortbread on the terrace.

Image

As you know Ferry Man is a great photographer and a very quick driver, but he's also a man with impeccable manners, as can be seen by his little pinkie action.
cheers, Mike.

So at last the Evo triangle! We had a two hour slot between morning coffee and our next lunch stop to get to and drive the 'triangle'. Obviously I am the only petrolhead in the UK who hasn't driven it before, and of course there has been tons written about it and pictures galore, but just in case there is another like me then just a quick overview of the road.

Image

So going clockwise and east to west you'd start in Cerrigydrudion along the bottom leg the A5. Just a warm up really for what's to come as you turn right onto the A453. As you climb away from the main road it opens out into a fantastic sweeping moorland road where you can see forever, this west leg is about 8 of the best miles you could ever drive. I've shamelessly nicked a couple of pics off t'internet to give you an idea, we were too busy driving....

Image

Image

Turning right at the apex of the triangle you're on the B4501, this is different in that more tree lined, reminded me of the old Hockenheim circuit, but again wonderful long views down the road to see whats coming. Roughly 7 miles this east leg and halfway along a fantastic swooping, switchback rollercoaster of a section which I'm glad we did before lunch.....

Image

This is us in the lay by at the triangle apex, just before the right turn, Mitch behind the camera again.

Image

Surprised how quiet it was, hardly any other traffic apart from the A5 and no sign at all of the dreaded plain clothed police on motorbikes or the speed traps we'd been warned about, plenty of speed camera signs though!

Did I mention food, all to soon it was off to nearby Denbigh and a fantastic slap up lunch before heading straight back home. Came back the 'quick' way across to the M6 and down the M40 to the A34 and Hampshire, boring with roadworks and hgv's galore. It was 20 mins from home when the heavens opened for that torrential rain storm on tues night, boy did those country lanes near me flood quickly, would have been better off in a boat........

But what a two days, great roads in great cars with great people, fantastic fun and one ticked off the bucket list, if you haven't done it go and do it, if you have done it, do it again!
cheers, Mike.

Thanks again!

Great looking cars and very nice to get an update on yourselves. No one seems to have changed a bit!
I still see Mike is the one carefully coordinating clothes to car. Lol.
A little greying at the temples Paul but retirement seems to be doing you no harm at all.
The stance of the RS is sublime Mitch.
Three great colours too.

Regards
Mike
