However the VDO gauges that are offered nowadays by the likes of VW Heritage for fitting to VW Beetles are also compatible (VDO p/n 301 020) and have the advantage of a more attractive (read: authentic) face design.
The only minor ballache is that neither have an integrated low-fuel warning light. In years past VDO did a variety of Cockpit gauges (their Marine range was a good source) and this feature was available on some of them. Latterly though they seem to have rationalised everything and all are the same design.
Similarly silver dots also seem to have bitten the bullet years ago.
