New Porsche homologated Pirelli tyre 165VR15 CN36 N4

Arguably the best tyre for a http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/porsche-356 would be the new tyre that Pirelli have made, porsche have tested, and Porsche have given their N4 seal of approval. so thi sis the only Porsche homologated 165R15 tyre. and it is the only V rated tyre in the size 165VR15, from a top brand.

Now for fashion reasons i don't think it is the right tread pattern. the https://www.cinturato.net/pirelli-cinturato-cn36.html came out in 1969. don't get me wrong; i think it is one of the best looking tyres i sell; However i think they stopped making the 356 in 1965. 4 years before even Pirelli had come up with a tread pattern that sexy.

In 1965 Michelin made the http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/16 ... n-xas.html which is a great tyre and i would suggest was categorically the best tyre for an unmodified 356 that wanted to fit radials to suit our modern roads.

But a few years ago Pirelli made the http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/16 ... -ca67.html , which again is a fantastic drivers tyre, but has the fashion advantage of being a proper period thing that came out in 1952 and by the late '50s and ealy '60s (well 1964 to be precise) dominated as the best sports car tyre. I cannot comment on how well that Pirelli works but from a visual point of view its not a looker,
I have fitted some vredestein sprint classics in 165/15 to a couple of 356's of late and they look OK and work well too, with the added advantage of being less than half the price, that said Longstone work very hard for the old car scene and deserve every success.

In my experience Pirellis have more grip than Vredesteins, but the latter are excellent, I've used them on various oldies for forty odd years now and currently have them on my Healey, same size as 356.

I think the Cinturato CA67 is p;erfect and actually the best tyre from many points of view, but from the fashion point of view it is the only pewriod coreect tyre as they were available from 1952 right through the '60s & ''70s

the 165VR15 Cinturato CN36 N4 is an excellent looking tyre and is a period tyre for post 1969. Personallly i think they look great

I have to say personally i can't bare the Vredestein. i have driven on them on a MK2 Jaguar and an Alfa Spider and they don't have the progressive handling of a top brand genuine period tyre like a Pirelli Cinturato or a Classic Michelin. And i think they look dreadful. i bought a van a bit ago and it had some tyres on that i had never heard of before and the tread pattern looked just like the Vredestein, which i just don't like, but i don't find it as bad as the design of the side wall which is topped off by having the word classic written on it in the kind of script you would only use if you were trying to make something that isn't classic, look classic. Yuk! (there i've got it off my chest now)

I just ordered and received a tyre and innertube from Longstone and am very pleased with the service and delivery. Really good website and a good choice of tyres for the 356.

Just a point though my car does not do much more than 1,000 mile a year and these days its not driven fast like years ago. I bought around 10 years ago a set of Firestone F560 tyres ( locally bought)and they still have much life still in them. ( Got a puncture in one a few weeks ago so ordered a new one from Longstone)

For me the Firestone F560 has worked well and looks to me acceptable on the 356. I know Beetle owners who use these tyres as well.

I noticed on the Longstone site they now recommend a range of tyres but don't include the Firestone for 356. The price of the Firestone with tube is a little over £100- the best options they advise are a lot more. For those on a limited budget I think the Firestones work well for the money and as they say, a tyre ages after 6 years of so' it means changing often. I had Michelin X tyres for years till they wore out. I hope a dark garage looks after tyre life? I do inspect for sidewall perishing but they seem fine.

I can imagine for fast driving or racing the tyre is all important and money then is well spent. But for pootling around local roads I am Firestone F560 happy.

Guess maybe I might be out of touch??? Am I ?????

I'm with both of you! I had S560 Firestones on mine when I bought it, great handling, not too ugly, then I wore them out and fitted some vanity (bigger) wheels, shod with some castoff Avon CR6ZZ (which are great). I like the price of the verdesteins, but they certainly look like van tyres!

We used to sell the Firestone because it was a really good value pretty good tyre. However they have now dramatically gone up in price http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/16 ... -f560.html and on top of that i believe they are no longer actually made by Firestone, and are made else where under licence. we sell a Michelin XZX which is only cost about 10% more http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/165sr15.html . i think this is currently the bargain tyre for a Beetle or 356.
