Wow, the car is now driving!

I had to go around Woolleys garage on Saturday morning to sort out an engine warning light on my car too be surprised by the speedster driving around the yard. The suspension geometry has been set up, Carbs modified so to use the CIS cams which now run Venturi = 32, Main jet = 135, Air jet = 180, Idle jet = 55, gear selection works. The troublesome handbrake has been modified again, and some minor wiring done. Unfortunately the car ran was very low on fuel and it was late in the day so I did not get a chance to drive it myself.

I understand that there is still a lot of fine tuning before the speedster comes home then the IVA work starts!

So I need to fit the windscreen, heated screen relay circuit, finish the fuel filler collar and protection shielding pipe, fit the bumbers, change the internal door handles, I feel another long list of tasks needs to be written and actioned :)

May be worth double checking but I think you need an audible warning that sounds if you leave you lights on with the ignition switched off Greg.

After a few months off, I'm back in the cave working through the endless loom modifications....

H-G, really good question. I must admit looking for the answer suddenly realised that the IVA standard was updated in October 2016 so need to review any changes which may impact on the build. Will let you know if I find anything.

H-G, Best I can tell reading through the IVA manual October 2016 version the following seems to apply;

"The rear fog lamp(s) must only illuminate when dipped beam, main beam or front fog lamps are lit (see alternatives in Notes 3 and 4)". I read note 4 as specifying for the need of an audible warning if the above does not apply.

I did a search on "audible" and this was the only relative section I found. Maybe you picked up on another section?

I also read through the updated section 08, 12, 13A, 16, 17, and 20 which I cant see that they apply to my speedster build

cheers

Busy week last week at work and working on the house, but most importantly the speedster is home in its new garage. So progress over the last few weeks has moved along to a point where the speedster does what cars should do, the engine starts first turn, when warm has a fantastic induction roar, all electrical components work as they should (Lights, switches, alternator, horn, warning lights, gauges, headlight aim set), you can select gears with ease, brakes stop progress/ good pedal, hand brake works, hydraulic clutch works, self centre steering at 10 mph. Doors, bonnet, boot all shut and open via release or handles. Suspension geometry front and rear is set correctly. Really cant believe the thousands of hours I and many others have done over the last few years is coming together. When the weather clears plan to get the car to a local airfield for real blast, driving around a muddy farm track really does not do it justice.

I have a very long build/ snagging list (55 points) including a lot of IVA related fixes. The test is in site, I really just need to find some time. The seats are away being covered by Gary at FX, Gary really came up with some fantastic concept details so cant wait to see progress over the next few weeks.

I have some video of the off load, but need to convert the file to work with photobucket

Getting close to test day. Need to chat about the fuel filler and where you got the bits to ensure IVA compliance.

Always a good feeling having come so far to be able to turn the key and it bursts into life. Something we all never give a second though until you build your own car from scratch.

Yes the pleasure from the first time the engine starts no matter how rough and then a short drive even if just backwards and forwards is real and a buzz. Having now proudly shown the engine running for friends and family just like a big kid, I need to get back to working on it. I have set up a day next week for some final welding touches.
The plan is to get the fuel filler spill tray welded and finally install the through-the-bonnet collar.

Gary at Classic FX is working on the front ali bucket seats and I have had the first trial bum fit which went really well, hopefully get some work in progress pictures soon. The design is a mix of traditional materials in a slightly more modern style.

The last big job is the fitting windscreen/ frame and that leaves me with a long snagging list before the IVA test. :)

So hopefully finally got the handbrake to function as it should. Lead soldered the ends of the cables which has given a very positive, secure anchor at the adjusting screw end. So next to windscreen any tips?

Morning Rich, yes I have already screwed the bottom posts to the frame, this can be removed, is there a better sequence for installation? Couple of other points;
I remember Ian saying that he had to grind the bottom of the posts to get the right angle. I need the screen to match the exact position of the hardtop. Can I adjust the position via the mirror tension rod?
I want to chrome powder coat the frame and realise to avoid getting any powder coat on the inner channel of the frame, but anything else to avoid?
Cheers
