h1's - can I run 100 watt bulbs?

If you use 100 watt bulbs you will need to wire in additional relays to protect the headlamp dip/main switch.

I'm not sure you can legally run 100w in the UK - I thought 55/60w was the maximum wattage permissible...

AND 100w is illegal on the road in the UK - has anyone ever been stopped for this??

thanks for the link, I know 100 watt is illegal but quite honestly don't care. It will be driven very rarely at night and the lights will be correctly adjested. Modern zenons are far more bright

Hi,

I tried 100 watt bulbs in my H1s as a desparate attempt to give more than 2 candle power. Unfortunately it only improved to 2.1 candle power

After all the effort I went to with a loom and relays, I was gutted!

Not worth the trip IMHO. Invest in a pair of H4 units from Euro Car Parts or similar. They transformed my night vision!

Good advice Gary - my H4's were new last year (part of my UK conversion activities) and they are far better than those on my later car.

If you need good lights at night, maybe these should be changed every x many years or so?

There are quite a few offering this type of conversion in the UK - I'm sure Phil Raby even had them done and an article written about it back in his days as a 911&PW staffer.

I've not heard anyone have a bad word to say about them in terms of lighting quality however I believe they will also fail a strict MOT examination as IIRC, to be strictly legal, xenon headlight systems have to be capable of auto dipping and I've yet to see a kit that includes this facility.

Now pass me that anorak...

OK Now Iam confused how can single build H4's be superior to double bulb H4's?
On another HI topic can anyone tell me how you know an H1 lense? I have some that have straight lines all the way down and some part way but all have clear lense tops?

Good question, until I tried it I didn't believe it either. Something to do with the H4's using the whole reflector and a shaded bulb rather than a separate reflector for high and low beam. Technology moves on I guess.

My theory was if the H4 is good enough for the 160+mph 911 up to and I think including the 964 then it must be OK for my old motor!
