Considered by many to be the first quartz watch. Who cares if it is horrendous or if you like the look of it. It is a piece of horohistory. Many bought them but they were a mechanical electro failure they were almost all scrapped out to oblivion.

That's the problem with vintage quartz watches - almost impossible to find spare parts.
When they stop they become useless and practically worthless apart from the scrap value.

i looked it up and discovered there is a stainless steel version with a blue face which to my eye seems a much nicer combination than this gold version, but as a long time [predictable] fan of the Heuer Monaco, that is probably to be expected.

I find the featureless 'goldness' of it to be quite off putting, there are no design hooks for your eye to catch on to.

Anyway, who cares what i think, as with most things its down to personal taste. Life would be quite dull without differences in taste.

Here are a couple of the aforementioned Monaco, current daily wearer. 40th anniversary Steve McQueen limited edition, no 571 of 1000. Uses the original Cal 11 movement which is why the winder is on the 'wrong' side, rather like the Omega which is what made me think of the Monaco.

I know that there are many of the stainless steels out there. I wonder how many of the solid gold ones are still out there? This thing weighs a boat load I don't remember exactly but I remember it was over three ounces of 18K with the movement. I imagine this went scrap left and right

Hate to break it to you but they don't use the original Cal 11 movement. It's a completely different modern movement bearing very little resemblance to the original 11 / 11i / 12 Calibre movement. They called a couple of modern Tag movements Cal 11 and Cal 12 but they are modern ETA based with a piggy back Dubois-Depraz chrono module on top - the originals were completely different. They put the crown on the left to mimic the vintage ones but that's all the movements share in common
