Nice 1 owner 1966 911 S at Coys

1 owner from new! Originally Irish Green and now painted silver (shame!). Looks nice in the pictures to me but interested in what others think.

I believe this came on the market around a month or so ago, at the time I think the dealer/seller was wanting around £120k.

From the pictures it looks fairly complete and un-messed with. If it's a solid car then I think it's good value given it's matching numbers. If it needs metal work then I would say it's over priced given how much good metal work and putting it back to its original Irish green would cost.

Trying to work out this car is a bit of a conundrum.

Irish green is such a stunning colour on a swb 911 so why switch to silver? Maybe the one owner just fancied a change but it's a big job to do a complete colour swop so was the car taken completely apart? restored? Seems like a lot of bother just to change the colour. Maybe it had an accident or was full of rust? I just can't imagine the one owner of this car waking up one day and telling the wife, "I'm going to change the S from green to silver honey".

It must have been taken apart for paint but re-assembly has been pretty dismal from what I can see from the few photos here. All the big ticket items have been lost. Why would a loving one owner do that?
These are going to cost a fortune to replace (if you want originality that is- would seem a reasonable thing to go along with the 'one owner' theory).

Or has this car been asset stripped by a dealer before going up for sale? Maybe it was in complete condition with the one owner before and after repaint.

A conundrum.

It was advertised on pistonheads some 6 or so weeks back with several pictures. The only info I recall is what Mike has already posted, I see the auction house has it back on pistonheads but no pictures posted.

If you have ever tried to buy original parts Mark ( ) then you will know that to get,

Five correctly finished 4.5x15 Fuchs and the correct wheel nuts is expensive
Period tyres to match are not cheap
The correct headlights with Bosch Rhd lenses (why has this car got Rhd H4's when it's American?) are near impossible.
The correct euro front and rear sidelights are very rare and expensive (Bosch markings)
The correct original side deco trim is virtually impossible
The correct rear view mirror is difficult and expensive
The correct dash (with speaker holes) is very expensive (why has the current one been recovered?)
The correct red bordered engine stickers are not cheap
Original overrider grommets are difficult (the new repros look out of place and too 'white')
The rear bumper to licence plate rubbers (the current ones look to have been in a fire)
The correct wiper arms and blades are difficult to find.

Some of this stuff is available as repro items but they will never be original and are still not cheap. As a 'one owner' car (who owns it now then?) it would have been nice to have everything in place which would have made it a fabulous car.

I think a lot of this just can't have gone missing or got damaged. I suspect it's all been sold off over time. You know how much effort and time consuming it is to track down these very rare parts. However, originality may not be your goal and I'm sure the car can be enjoyed 'as-is' but it's not currently an example of a true 67S. When you factor in a strip down and quality repaint to Irish Green and then reassembly you could be looking a rather large bill to bring it back to original.

Obviously hard to tell from the photos although the paint looks pretty fresh to me.

Good point Darren. There also doesn't seem to be any of the usual nicks scratches and chips on those engine lid hinges like there usually is on an older repaint. That rear licence panel looks brand spanking new as well. Odd, as the rubbers are toast.

Dunno, there's just something that doesn't add up to me..........

I believe the car was painted about 15 years ago. It looks ok but if you look closely at the pictures you can see some bubbling on the front RHS wing top (near the scuttle) and a crease on the rear wing. Looks like it was a decent job when done a few years ago.

Your eyes are better than mine, I put that down to light/reflection......it would be better for any buyer if the paint was 15 years old as potential issues may have surfaced however I will always maintain that any 50 year old car, irrespective of where it's been, will be rusty......how much so is only truly known when you take it back to metal.

I'd agree it does look like a decent paint job if 15 years old.
