Gary picked up parts from the powder coaters (2nd time) as first batch from Redline was pretty poor (rustingbalready!!) and Gary didn't think they would last so were treated again....



When fitting new bearings in the trailing arms and anti roll bar bushes there was significant wear so housings bored out and new mounts fitted. Trailing arms also checked on jig which proved both are straight, was worried being ex hill climb car





Replaced fuel lines as full of blasting grit.
Replaced cut front to rear brake pipe.

I see you have a CDI unit fitted....

A few pages back you posted pictures of a dizzy along with a new condenser. 911's running CDI units don't have condensers. Worse, if you fit a condenser to a car running a CDI unit, the timing advance will be messed up.

I'm not sure that the 123 dizzy is compatible with CDI either to be honest as it is meant for Kettering systems.

Quick update from Gary today, coming on well!!







Yesterday I had a really interesting visit to collect my tyres, (Pirelli) big warehouse full of mainly pre-war tyres but with quite a few bays of more 'recent' rubber for early 911's including race tyres and some fat rUbber to fit RSR's. Had a little tyre envy would highly recommend a visit and a coffee. It's run by Dougal who has a wealth of knowledge and lots of interesting stories in particular his lovely little race car pictured below. Apparently there is a link to Porsche in there somewhere back in the day... can anyone on here shed any light on it?

AFN - which I believe stands for Aldington Frazer Nash - was the original importer of Porsches in the UK, until bought out by PCGB in the early 70's. John.

Popped down to Gary's yesterday to drop the engine off so he can have a close look over it to ensure it's all period correct prior to fitting. He was pleased with most things, just small bits like location of HT leads was incorrect and some of plating done by redline (fan strap) was poor and needs doing again



So whilst I had set aside a day I was itching to help...gary was busy restoring a wiring loom for another customer so under his careful eye I set about fitting some sound proofing









I was quite pleased with myself, even though Gary suggested there maybe a few air bubbles and he may have to tidy it up a little!! Garys eye for detail and knowledge of period correct is truly astounding as we discussed yesterday what had been done and what was left to do in the build.

Now for anyone who has been through this process they will understand the importance of this next step

Now a very useful tip by Gary. When fitting a washer use the rounded side facing down as the sharp side cuts into the paintwork.... you can't buy that advice!!







Now, I decided (taking into account the opinion of ddk'ers) on not painting the rear letters which should be black. Being a new engine lid the '911E' badge requires holes drilling too.





Jury is still out...

I'm hoping to pop down again shortly to crack on with some bits whilst Gary concentrating on wiring.

Hi Adam,
Your badges look great and I think you should leave them as they are. I have received back some re-anodised badges but was not happy with the results so have sent them back to be refinished. The colour was more black rather than the faded gunmetal grey/purple that comes with age. Gary is working on my car too (another 73, E, silver). When I get the badges back I will leave them with Gary and you are welcome to try them on your car to see what you prefer.

Many thanks, it's a tricky one as I'm sure everyone on here will agree how hard it is to where to draw the line to determine the level of 'restoration'. What should remain as car history/patina, the decision of what you replace with new parts, where to prioritorise budget etc etc as every decision could be detrimental to value of completed car and also loved or hated by different people. I may need to raise finance in the future, having my own business I've had to dispose of personal possessions to pay tax bills/wages through difficult times so that's always in the back of my mind.... anyway, on a positive I love the car, am enjoying the process immensely and don't ever intend selling the car therefore I like the silver too, don't like the new plastic ones in black so that's that

I spent another day with Gary helping as much as I can whilst on way to a meeting with client late afternoon (who has just gone into administration yesterday ). Gary had already put the suspension on and engine in



















and today was installing front fuse box.
