Thanks for the positive comments everyone. The car definitely is starting to look good in paint now.
I saw it again today with the wings, doors and lids trial fitted. These have been pre-painted but will get more coats along with the body - starting to get excited now !

I've yet to meet up with Mike to get my gearbox back yet - but will try to remember to ask him. I know he has used it before on other gearbox rebuilds for DDKers, as he had to buy some more to do mine. Looks pretty good in the photos.HenrikL wrote:Great thread! Thanks Jamie, it is indeed exciting times.
I was talking to the painter today and he told me that he had used 17 litres of paint so far, and he still has six coats to go!
Sounds like a lot of paint to me, I find it difficult to visualise, but can't fault the finish so far.

My painter said they were really happy with the results apart from the colour choice
Whilst I was viewing it before pickup someone walked in from the street and said 'well that looks really great - but which pillock chose the colour' [or words to that effect]
Have started to fit the suspension so that I can get it on wheels and pushed down to my workshop.
Working in my tight garage makes me wonder how I restored my 912 in there from start to finish before I had the extra space.

Superb rebirth for your car, and I'd choose that color in a heartbeat (I have a toy 914 by Shuko -sp?- that looks similar). I've noted it in other threads, but that quality of projects like this blows me away. Remember in old Haynes manuals there were pictures of rust repair showing use of wire screen and lots of Plastic Padding? We've come a long way. Best regards, John.
