So ... spent the best part of the summer converting from a 4 to a 6 cylinder!! Plus brake issues!! And so on !!
So in Germany we have the TÜV which is the MOT in Blighty.. but it's once every 2 years, but also you can have a H - plate. So classic car .. so cheaper tax and insurance. Which I have.. which means it has to take another test for originality!!!
So 2 days before Christmas I take the car for a TÜV. Which had run out in September!!! Officially I have to have the car certified as a 6 cylinder.. but the only place that can do that is not until early part of this mid year!! I thought just put it through a normal test and see what happens?? The difference here is the mot sticker is attached to the rear number plate!! So everyone can see if it's road legal or not !!
The other difference is the mot centre can not pass or fail the car. The mot or TÜV man is totally independent from the garage!!
So first test it fails !! On steering wheel!! Air filters and brake hoses not being original!! All safety accepts of the car pass !!!but fails on originality!! But the TÜV man never realised the engine was incorrect!!
So that evening drove a 2 or 3 hour round trip to Mittlemotors to buy some new rubber Din brake hoses !! And to borrow a original air filter box !! Complete with trumpet!!
Spent the rest of the night swapping everything over and bleeding the brakes!! And digging out the old steering wheel!! With the old butterfly horn push never worked!!
The next day it was a different TÜV man that visited the garage . Apparently he noticed the engine!!! But asked if it was original? The garage owner said yes it was ! He then said he loved the colour !! And proceeded to stamp the book to give the car a clean bill of health and originality !!
Phew!!! Wtf !!
Sorry ! Just had to share this story!!
But all done before Christmas!! Which means ... I can sort of legally!?!? Or not !! at least put some miles on it now to break it !!'or break it in !
Frohes Neues Jahr!!
Mark.

Had one of my best drives to work on a morning like that. Chose the Caterham7 Superlight that day.
Go on you know it makes sense.
