You dont want one, honestly! I had one last year only because it was very cheap,and had been totalled twice! Drove it three times.Clutch like a 1940s lorry, crap electrics,no second gear until the oil thinned out and inability to park it anywhere!

Have to agree - better Ferraris at the money. Ok when they were 50k...

Had a friend out at the auction over the weekend, lots of interesting feedback and a lot of people scratching their heads about not just crazy prices but bizarre bids for rubbish. Mumblings of mafia money laundering and stuff like that, but more worrying is cars with little paperwork that RM have sold will go into very expensive storage at the new owners costs until they can legally take them out the country, knowing Italian bureaucracy that may take years!

Chap I know there says there was a 10 man punch up today. But even more bizarrely was a panda 4x4 selling for 12k.

.Had it on PH for months at 45k.Some overseas interest, but no buyer.Put up price to 55k, and dealers bought it in few hours.

James, I understand you, I was one of the underbidders on the nice blue/grey 550 at the auction! Very nice color combo IMO. The manual blue/tobacco 575 was even better but too expensive for me.

Being local to me, I've been at the auction for the 3 days, and have to say that every single lot was bidded by at least 3/4 different people, both dealers and collectors. Somebody got too enthusiastic, but I saw a lot of younger bidders, and what seemed a genuine interest and willingness to buy, with much resolution in some cases, the japanese seated in front of me that got the Lancia Ferrari LC2 for example, or the australian that flew in to buy the Balilla berlinetta MM (how many unrestored ones are around after 80years he told me).
There were a few interesting 911s, the black 73S was excellent (70% original paint and low kms as well from the perfect interior), the other 73S tempted me as a project (quite solid and originally aubergine).
The fear of burocracy is overestimated, almost all the big ticket lots came with regular docs ("libretto"), many were obtained after the catalogue was printed. The storage I got quoted is 6€/day after 10th dec, so nothing special IMO.

As the owner of a perfect 1942 Ford GPW, I would love to think this is what Jeeps are worth. But similar vehicles (year and condition) can easily be picked up for 25,000 euro or less outside of the auction environment.

But to prove that auction madness can strike at any time, and why the selection of venue is critical, at a recent auction in France where the contents of a Normandy museum were auctioned, an otherwise unremarkable Willys jeep sold for 95,500 euro.....

Is there a post auction list anywhere? There were a few interesting (if unremarkable in terms of history) bmw race cars in the auction and I'd be interested to know what they went for - the estimates were a joke (prob 15-25% of market value) in my opinion..

..obviously if they sold for around their estimates I really DON'T want to know! the bruises from kicking myself could take years to heal
