early 911/912 front ventilator window dismantle

Post by newto912 »

Dear All
I have a 66 912 which I am slowly restoring.
The whole front door frames needs re-chroming and I have managed to dismantle the rest of the frames.
the front ventilator glass is really tight in its frame, and there is a push button which locks the window shut. Looking at parts diagrams there appears to be a dowel pin . Any tips on getting this out as it looks like I will have to do this to remove the window glass.
once the pin is out do you prise the glass out? dont want to break anything!
Is there a rubber seal between the frame and the glass?
This is a silly question I know, but can it be re chromed without removing the glass?
probably not , but you never know!!
Thanks
Andrew

I used a small drift to tap the pin out. I don't remember this being a problem.
To remove the glass i heated the frame and glass in the oven at about 100 deg. C for 10-15 minutes. The glue went soft and it was easy to prise the glass out.... However!! it did make the oven stink for s few days and landed me in deep do-do with Mrs Impmad!

Cheers Impmad,
(my 1st girlfriend had an Imp, many happy memories!)
I answered my own question and popped the pin out with a small masonry nail.
was going to use jizzer to dissolve the goey bitumen like stuff, but will pop it into the AGA for a slow cook!
Thanks very much for your help
