Hi

Angus fitted an electronic unit called Power Spark

Not sure how it works with the type 4 Id have to defer to Angus, Im just going to plug it in:-)

The front of my car now looks like this:-


While Im waiting for fuel pumps and coils etc Ive started to fit other stuff:-


I should have some screen tape coming so I can fit the rear window and the deck to window seal. Not sure why the auto atlanta sails and vinyl doesn't quite cover the whole roof, there is a chrome strip to add which will cover the gap I just would have though vinyl all the way across would give the plate a better fit and keep any moisture out. It might be how they did them in the factory?

Anyway more fettling to do today, Ill put the strips on and start to thing about assembling the other strips and rubbers. I might even look at the dash.

afternoon

apols for the trivial question. The fuel supply pipe out of the tank 914 201 043 10, I cant tell from the PET which pipe is which. Is the supply the pipe with the straight tube or the one with the slightly tapered tube?

Your car is looking smart Andrew!

Fuel tank - if the tank was installed in the car and you were looking from the front of the car towards the fuel tank it's the right hand pipe which is the supply line.

got more energy and inclination so Im cracking on. So long as you dont look too closely where Ive scratched it already.

Sadly I took the pipes out of the tank when I refurbed it so I dont know which one should go into which hole. My tank doesn't have left or right its front and back. I think the tanks changed in 74 ish though Im not sure of the difference.

So not so good today.

Firstly I tried to fit the targa top window seal from 914 rubber (the one that goes around the windscreen pillars and across the top of the windscreen. The windscreen pillars seem to fit ok though they have split already as they turn the corner. The bit that fits across the top of the window just falls out. Its neoprene and slippy Ive no idea if theres anything thats meant to hold it in place or perhaps glue? I have fitted the lower seal, that seems to want to stay in place. Dont recall the original being glued in. Ive sent a note to ask for instructions. I wish these guys would just send the instructions with the bits or post the instructions on their website..... and send the right bits in the box etc

Then I tried to fit my rear windscreen using butyl tape, I bought a roll of 'USA snake' tape. It says it fits windscreens and glass. I took it out of the packet. First thing I noticed was that the only thing it seems to want to stick to is itself. I put it around the body where the rear screen should go and it pretty much fell off. I tried to push it in to place but Im pretty sure it wouldn't have held the screen. Instructions say, make sure clean surface, dry, free from grease etc. Yep did that. Doesn't say use a primer or anything.

Any ideas on the above?

Also I noticed that my rear fire wall has been repaired without a hole for the fuel line, so a bit of drilling required.

As I say not the best of days, but yesterday was ok so I shouldn't moan.

Ordered 8mm brake line for the centre tunnel and bio grade fuel hose so at least thats something that Im positive will work ok:-)

Been a while since I did my targa seals but I think the window deal is secured at the ends by a screw in each end. But that was all. No glue. Mine were from 914rubber.

How code was your garage today? If it was as cold as it was up here maybe your rubber was less flexible - hence the splitting on the pillar rubber? And hence the rear screen goes not working too well? I'm clutching at straws here! I got my buytl window stuff from roger bray and it worked well but did go hard when cold?

I added the end screws. Mark from 914 rubber dropped me an email. Ive got to send him some pictures so that might help.

It was quite cold today. The butyl people say I should use a hair drier to warm the stuff up first so Ill try that.

Tomorrows another day, hoping it will be a better one. One thing I noticed after I fitted the targa seal is that the door front side glass doesnt fit flush against the seal. Ill get the spanners out and try and adjust it tomorrow.

The original windscreen surround seal has a metal crimp strip all the way through it so it just pushes on and stays there. I also bought one from 914 rubber !!! I just put it in the pile of other things I bought from them that never worked or fitted!!! I think it was about 5 inches to long as well !!

I had one from them that was about 5 inches too long as well. they'd had a production problem apparently - they sent me a new one that was the correct length.

I have to say my pile of bits is growing as well, the neoprene I think they use might look the right shape but I jsut dont think it has the properties to do what it needs to.

The frame seal I have seems to be the right length but it has nothing in the rubber channel to push on to the window frame, its just floppy neoprene. Ive sent Mark a picture hopefully that will help.

Andrew, your car is looking great. Love the paint. My targa seal was from 914 Rubber too. It fitted fine though at the central point I need to be careful that the top locates properly as it comes adrift quite easily...

Rear glass seal was a 3M item that I had from Auto Atlanta. Needed to be heated up before fitting.
