I cant help thinking your 914 just needs a bit of t-cut a bit like the one I bought... oh how pictures on the internet can be deceptive!

I did watch the foot ball over the weekend and didn't join 2 bits of cable together as promised. Tomorrow is the day Im psyching myself up already. Just need a good nights sleep, cup of coffee with caffeine in it (as a treat). Ill do it first thing in the morning before I grind to a halt.

When I was having treatment I was up at odd hours on high doses of steroids a couple of times I was in the garage at 3 am working on the car. Sometimes Id fall asleep under it for 20 mins then start up again or go back to bed. Very weird stuff medication not sure I like it all that much but I know Im better off with it than without it.

We moved from up-North to down-South-ish round Christmas - although the car stayed-put in storage and hasn't seen the light of day for months.

Ah well..one day!

Afternoon all

lovely weather and come on Wales etc ....

So Ive managed to get all the wiring into the car (bar the bits that are engine related as thats not in at the moment) and hook up all the things that hang off the wiring. Bought a spanking new battery and hooked it up.

I wasnt sure what to expect but I did test everything on a bench a couple of years ago when I build the loom so I was quietly confident. Well on first inspection I seem to have made a clown car. I switch the lights on and the headlights go down but the lights go on. I turn the lights off and the headlights go up but the lights go out. I put the indicators on and the backs work a treat the fronts have a life of their own (I wired the side lenses with the indicators so they should flash at the same time - well they nearly do that but not quite). The hazard warning switch doesnt flash anything. I laughed quite a lot and decided to call it a day and go back to it when I feel in the mood to be a bit more methodical.

It would have been asking too much to have a 100% success rate but I was hoping it would be close to it. I dont ming the fault finding I just hope I dont have to pull out too much wiring as it took me ages to get it in.

I shall call my car coco till its starts to be better behaved

Doesn't sound too serious, i would start by checking the connectors located by the h/lamp lift motors, sounds like you may have the wires crossed?

Ill double check the wires thanks. Going into the motor they look fine I may have got them mixed at the other end. Wasn't sure if I fitted the mechanicals of the motor and the arms that push the headlights the wrong way but I can check that as well.

I found a simple resolution to quite a few issues, fuse 11 was blown, probably as I connected the battery so note to self, take fuse 11 out before connecting the battery.
Fuse 7 was blown as well I think thats due to a short on the drivers door where the interior light switch is. The connectors I used may be a bit big and they are in a cramped space.

Hi all

back in the garage. Its only taken me 3 months to venture back in there, the weathers been too good. Chipping away at electrical gremlins. My flasher switch wasn't working until I realise the back had popped off and spilled the contents out so theres no wonder it wouldn't work. Reassembled and appoxy'd back together, seems fine now.

Now the light switch is blowing a fuse every time I turn it on. It worked a little while ago and now its not. The internal rheostat wasn't working so Ive bypassed it. Ive double checked the wiring and it looks ok. Today I noticed that the rheostat slider plate has collapsed so Im not sure if the switch is shorting inside. I seem to have power to the main pin until I pull the switch out 1 notch and then none of the pins have power.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. It might be better to look for another switch. Anyone got a spare? Mines the later one 914 613 414 15

Drum roll....

electrics all done (apart from the bits that fit to the engine as the engines not fitted yet). Quite chuffed and I have to say Ive spent some time 'over testing' ok playing with the lights and windscreen wipers, its the first sign of life the cars had in 25 years so I made the most of it.

Ive also refitted the front blower and the horrid heater control cables. They were too bad once you get you mind around where they come from and what they're meant to do. I did try and fit the blower pipes I bought from 914 rubber back in 2011 but it seems Im short in the kit.

Ive got pipes to do the rear of the car, the exhaust to the rear blower and the rear blower to the rear of the longs but the kit is missing the front pipe work from the plastic flapper box to the from of the longs and from the windscreen vent to the side vents (the diameter is only 50mm not the wider pipe). Im sure they are meant to come in the kit. Anyway Ive asked Mark to see what he thinks.

If the kit doesn't include the front pipe work, Im not sure I want to order from the US for a couple of pipes, any idea on what alternatives I could use? I didnt really want to use the silver ducting pipe you can get as its seems to split easily, I wanted something a bit more robust.

My next job, I really need to tackle is the engine, Angus rebuilt it for me a couple of years ago. I need to decide now whether to go for weber 40s or to craft some sort of EFI system. I was thinking carbs would be more sensible at the mo, I could always do the EFI project another time. Unless someone somewhere has developed a kit in the last 18 months that Im not aware of that would be fairly straight forward?

Happy to take views again on that one.

Ill have a look for webber 40's, if anyone has a set they want to find a new home for let me know. I was thinking about getting new ones from the US but the exchange rate seems to make it an expensive purchase.

Well done! Do you have any parts for the induction on the engine. If you have any parts for the original fuel injection that would be a start.

Hi Dave

the car didnt come with EFI it was fitted with ICT 34 webers which I still have but wont use. Ive got all the other linkage bits, there a bit scruffy but Im sure they would work. Not sure about the manifold I need to check that. Angus fitted reworked type 4 heads to the engine as my 914 heads had been re-worked before, they probably would have been ok but we took the newer option. The upshot is my manifolds might not fit. I need to check.

Im not sure what else I need on the ignition side, Ill do a bit of research, I def need a new fuel pump. I have a distributer and cap thats ok. The rest... I need to make a list:-)

You could look around for some 912 Solex carbs; I know there are manifolds available for them, but mine were sold.

Manifolds are available here - several heights to cost from. Then get some weber idf 40's and an 009 dizzy and that should do you

Thanks all, Im going to make a list of bits today and see if I can talk to a local carb bloke who might be able to help set it all up when done.

How about other bits eg coil? and any thoughts of fuel pump?
