912 67 wiper arms and blades

Post by gturner008 »

Quick question...

What should the wipers arms and blades be made from? Stainless, black steel or silver painted steel?

Mine are black, look in good conditions, but feel stainless might look even better...

Yes chrome. Have a look here. RogerBray is probably the best UK source for such parts

Chrome? I don't think so. Stainless? No. silver painted? Nope.

Get a very nice pair of Eric's (autoforeign services) silver/grey reproduction wiper arms for your car listed in the link above. They are the most accurate you can get and his shipping is quick (if they are in stock).
Make sure you order the Lhd or Rhd whichever is correct for your car.

He has the blades too.

Regards
Mike

Steel painted.

I have a pair from Eric with a stone chip from the flat4 drive the other month. I think you can buy them from karmann konnection also. They stock a lot of his products.

May I ask a question? The wiper arms changed thickness early on. Do we know when?

Never knew that. Every day is a school day with these cars

My car had later black arms when I bought it the only difference the AF arms were the kink in the passenger side arm.

Have you tried asking on the early 911s registry?

The swb 'silver' arms are indeed a different width, shape and possibly length to the later black arms.
However, I think Ian is referring to an even earlier change in 64/65 to those on 66/67 cars. I have been trying to post without success a very nice picture of chassis number 300003 outside the factory (when new) with Ferry Porsche and his secretary standing beside it. It clearly shows wiper arms different to my 66 arms (but still 'silver') so I assume Ian is referring to those. I don't know exactly when they changed but it looks like 65 ish.

Thanks Mike, I had noticed more than a 'handed' difference between the Yellow Canary's wipers and my car and was interested to see this ESR thread (http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums ... er+parking) and how it developed into wiper arm differences. But no mention was made of arm length or cross-section.

Just for the record, here are some pictures of my two sets side by side. All the items are SWF.

Lengthwise, there is 5mm difference. The width is about 3 mm different. There is no perceptible thickness difference. There is quite a difference in shape of bend (pic 2) - no idea if this is intentional or whether someone tweaked the arms to increase pressure on the screen.
I am presuming that the Yellow Canary arms are not original - maybe 1968 style.

Hey ho, what better way to spend a nasty cold wet morning - much better than going out in it!!

Great thread. But I'm back to my first thought. I have a SWB 67 912 with black wiper arms...

Is it a good idea for me to spray them silver? Cheers. Gary

I would say yes Gary. Best reference is to look at period road tests/literature and all the 66/67 articles I have looked at have silver finish.
Sorry, I maybe took your thread off at a tangent but it's good to have agreement and document these details.

Fun though
