Head lining bows- fitting advice

Ok, so funds are tight so I am going to fit my head lining. I'm not scared, I have done a camper van successfully in the past so know what I'm in for.

I have 2 unexpected problems, that may be a kind person could help with some advice.

1) My head lining material has no holes cut for the bows to come out from- what width apart or how much of the bow should be exposed at each end.

2) with the bows in the correct order, bow 3 isn't as tight as expected, and cuts across the roof rather than following the curve of the roof line. Is this correct? it will follow the roof line if I push its feet up the the holes. It's the one that came out of the car but it does look wrong to me. Shape wise its very close in profile to bows 1 and 2. Obviously I can buy another bow 3 but I half expect it will be the exact same shape.

Advice as always will be most gratefully received. Car is on its home run now but this bit is holding back the glass install.

I am not sure what you mean by having no holes for the bows to come out of. The material is usually supplied oversize and the looped material is longer than you really need.
Here is mine compared with the original.



Right, that said the two bows that are the same length are the ones for the front. The next larger is the one for placement 3 so the longest bow goes to the rear.
I suggest you watch Peter Morgan and Gary Cook on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDdTfku295M.
Also there are more good tips on Pelican (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche- ... ation.html), such as placing the fitment screws in place so you can find the holes easily. You have to make a small cut for the screws so it is as easy to do this and remove them as to cut to find the holes. In fact, a lot easier.
The works manual says work from the back to the front (once you have temporarily clipped into position before starting to glue) which is different to the way most people seem to work.

Sorry I wasn't clear. What I mean is the material has the pockets for the roof bows full width, and as you say its oversized. So I need to know at exactly what width I need to break out the roof bows.I recon if you lay the bow across the surface, they should exit the pockets at the point the ends curve. I have watched the video,it looks like my 3rd bow is undersized but it is original so don't see why it should be. The 3rd bow is nearly identical size to the first 2, I would have expected it to be about 15mm longer, but still shorter than the rear bow. Unfortunately they were well rusted so colour coding had gone but its the right one for sure. All the other 3 bows fit their respective slots perfectly.

That third bow is only slightly larger than 1 and 2. The fourth one does bow up more in the roof space giving more headroom (??)
Yes, just lay the bows centrally on the lining and slit the loop up to the rubber stop.
I had to file the end of each bow that was pushed through the loop. It needs to slip through or it can snag the material.

Hi, don't forget to fit new rubber feet on each end of the bow. Also don't buy new from Porsche at the moment as they don't fit, not even close. Each needs modifying, ask me how I know!

The new 'green' bows from Porsche are around 25mm too long, I am not sure about the white and Yellow parts but they are also likely to be wrong.

We have made around 60 set now and we use a spring temper stainless steel and they always fit.

The rubber sleeves have recently been re-manufactured and are much lower cost now.

It is unusual that original bows don't fit.
