The filter nut on the top of my Weber 40 off kn filters I think. I bought some m6 which looked about the right size but they will not turn on!

They are much more likely to be Imperial as they are US made.

The typical Acorn Nut on a K&N is typically a #10-24 which is a UNC but this is only around 5mm diameter on the major thread diameter.

Can you measure the major diameter of the thread on the filters ? as the single wing nut is likely to be larger but still UNC.

got a feeling the ones on our midget were 5/16-UNF when we replaced them, but might be the same.. 5/16 would be around 8mm I guess so if the M6 is too small it might be that size too

The nuts that hold the rain guards on are 1/4 unf on my KN filters bought about 7 years ago.
