Strut conversion for rear boot lid
Having removed the boot lid for painting don't particularly want to battle with the tension springsin the refit stage.
I am looking at adding struts instead. Over on 914 world they have done this with a kit from a seller.
Has anyone done this with kits from the UK? If so where did you buy the kit from?

Re: Strut conversion for rear boot lid
Thanks Stuart. I've sent him a message for more info.. and requested more info from the usa seller. I didn't realise any bulk head cuting would be required.
Will let you know how i get on.

Re: Strut conversion for rear boot lid
I've been communicating with Craig at Camp 914 and have ordered the struts and the side light kits.
I'll let you know when they arrive and are fitted as to what they're like.

Re: Strut conversion for rear boot lid
I fitted my own. Used SGS Engineering who supplied me with pretty much everything I needed. I decided to mount the struts to the hinge bracket itself which in turn means that you need to cut away a small area of the bulkhead top that the rubber trim fits to, in order to allow clearance. Took a couple of attempts before I was happy with the rating of the dampers.

Re: Strut conversion for rear boot lid
I used the camp914 kit and although incredibly easy to fit you do need to cut out a little notch on the bulkhead, right at the edge either side of the suspension tower. Worked perfectly fro the last 6 years.

Re: Strut conversion for rear boot lid
I stopped the USA order and went with sgs. Still haven't fitted them yet but will need to next week so that I can paint the car.

Would you mind posting what you ordered as I need to do this myself!

Re: Strut conversion for rear boot lid
I went for stainless end fittings rather than plastic as I've broken plastic ones in the past. I also chose a pressure rating of 300 as by advice 350 was a bit too excessive.
I can't add an image of the parts.
Code for the struts is GS8-18-250-300 (300 being the optional resistance)
2 stainless 10mm end fittings
2 10mm outside 90degree fittings for wings
2 10mm near flat fittings for the boot hinges
Hope this helps but i'll keep trying to sort the pictue. It came from sgs engineering. If you message me your email address i'll forward the details that i was sent which incluse images and measurements.

Re: Strut conversion for rear boot lid
I revisited these today as they simply weren't in the correct place as per the measurements i had .
Pleased to say boot lid closes without anything rubbing or jamming.

Re: Strut conversion for rear boot lid
Here's a few from mine - apologies for the delay to those that requested pictures. I agree that 350 is a bit too powerful, and would select 300s next time around.
