So, I have too many projects and not enough space. Therefore I have to sell my Beetle. It is one family owned, me and my Dad, original, unmodified 'basic' Beetle.
My dad bought this car new in August 1967 and gave it to me in June 1984. Therefore I can tell you absolutely everything about it and I can guarantee that everything written below is 100% true.
It has covered 207000 miles and is currently running on a 1971 engine that I purchased many years ago when the original engine required some work. The engine runs sweet and smooth and is entirely reliable but is getting quite well worn now. The original (matching numbers) engine requires new heads and pistons as it broke a valve guide shortly after being rebuilt in about 1990.
The chassis and body have never been seperated and there are only two small welded patches, one on the inside of the wheel arch and the other at the bottom of the frame head.
All of the mechanical components have been renovated or replaced during my ownership and the body has had two resprays the last one was in 2002. It is currently in very good condition and stands out and shines very nicely at shows. But, it is not a concourse car. The last 14 years have added a little patina to it (but you will have to look for it!).
The interior is excellent with replacement seat covers and carpets (in 2004) and the original headliner.
It was converted to 12V in 1987 so at least you can see where you are going in the dark.
It is unmodified and has the correct 1967 window winders, door handles, hub caps and boot lid. The hub caps and bumper blades are all stainless steel so no rust.
I have detailed all the work done to the car in my ownership in a little blue book, which comes with the car, and I have the original owners manual and VW service book stamped up to 100000 miles
It will be on display at Lavenham on 25th June and at Amberly Museum Classic Car Show on 24th July.
