Help needed from the seat police

I have these seats lying around. My '68 didn't have seats when I got it and when these came up for sale I bought them as a fallback option if i want to switch out the bucket seats i am currently running with.

A buddy here in Sweden was looking for seats for his 912 and i said if he can't find another pair he could have mine for recovering. Problem is he pointed out they might not be 911/912, and now when i look closer i see they are not identical.

Can anyone point out what year model these would be?

They look like 356 seats to me. But i've only ever seen mine, in my only Porsche! W

...and only one of the seats have that cover. I seem to have bought a mismatched pair.
So the other seat, with metal covers over the mech, and two little knobs on the back for the tilt mech, is that 356?

They have been recovered by the looks of it but the reupholsterer may have copied the original format of six pleats. Non headrest. Could make them 65.
Better pics needed to be sure.

Thanks for all the input. I've looked at the original size pictures I have and can see the following:
- both seats have the grey plastic covers over the hinges (this dates them post-65, right? 65 didn't have plastic covers at all?)
- one seat (passenger seat for LHD car) has the two knobs on the back for the folding mech. The knobs are not round, they kind of bell-shaped. This seat also has a folding handle on the outside with a standard revs to type rounded rectangle knob. No recaro script on the knob though. Slide mechanism handle at the front, to the door side(right side)
- one seat has no folding handles on the rear, only to the door side.

What details do we need to rule out if it's a 356 seat, or a MY1965 seat?

I have a 1968 912. Why is this seat not correct for 1968. I thought ROW MY1968 came without headrests.

1968 is a one year only interior. Elephant hide or basket weave. Its also the first year of (integrated) head rests. You don't have either.

Mines a 68 reg swb - it has the identical seats which are, as far as I am aware the originals, although they were black cord centre panels.

Garry pointed out the ivory covers. I spotted the pleats. They don't have integral or external headrests, apertures in the seat bases covered in hessian, three screw hinges, single seat back lock......


I wasn't 100% sure so I asked the world authority on seats now that you have posted better pictures. Well, a guy whose posts I have followed for years and his knowledge has always been accurate and very helpful. Jim is the name and here is his reply,

" Those are 66/67 seats. May be original upholstery, too. We never see cloth seats in the US but common on your side of the Atlantic. They will fit in a 68, too. 68s had black plastic covers on the hinges and both seats had seat back locks, not just the passenger seat like the 66/67 seats".

I think Jim will be right. I was wrong about the cloth covers being replacements. Every day is a school day!
