Shaks Specialist Cars Ltd - any experience on here

One of my brothers is falling over himself to buy a Turbo from these folks. They have produced a 9 month old "independent inspection report" but deleted all references to whoever did it.

"BOLTS MISSING FROM CASE HALVES" sounds like an issue to say the least.

Does anyone have any experience good or bad? They are in Huddersfield.

I've been to SSC and the feedback I've heard is it's a decent set up,

(It was suggested to me) the same can't always be said for the previous /current owners (SOR) of some of the cars for sale.

Without being too stereotypical or generalising too much, but some of the car dealers in the geographical region extending from Bradford don t have a good rep when it comes to honesty / quality of cars

Mick, you must get on PH more often to red all the horror stories ... As mentioned, a lot of SOR tricks .... Some recent ones ending up on watchdog

A bit harsh the Yorkshire comment. I could recite numerous well known dealers in nearly all counties not living up to expectations. My experience of dealing with with some of the well known professional set up's both as a private buyer and in the trade has often left a lot to be desired, and left me disappointed.

If something doesn't feel right, walk away. It'll be expensive in the long run. As for the mentioned dealer, it would be big No from me, even if they are in God's own County!!

I will however say, i found this in a car, which had only done 50 miles since being purchased from a specialist dealer in huddersfield. Ive got the details, i'll look up exactly who, but wont name and shame. Unless its Shaks, and being relevant to the post, it will get noted!! The dealer could have been innocent, but i will say - somebody really f***ed this up, and then put it back together and sold it on!

Its gets better, they painted the bottom of the gearbox silver to make it look rebuilt, and only replaced the gold (zinc/chromate/whatever) coloured bolts/nuts on the bits you could see, to make it look like the engine had been rebuilt well (like top of cam chain covers, but not nuts below the tinware!). There is more. Ive tarted some things up in my time, but this really took the biscuit.

50 miles later, engine rebuild, properly this time...!

Your eyes dont decieve, you that really was the angle of that head stud! Had to hammer the cylinder offf! Lucky all fixed and case saved, but even so



Try and tighten this fan belt

So this is how rumours start. If you have the info on the dealer as you say, either post it as relevent to the Shaks subject or not.
I think it's pretty poor form, posting something which may have no bearing whatsoever to the subject matter of the thread.

There's shysters all over the place (ask me how I know), but a post of ifs, buts and maybes does noone any good.

Having looked further I can confirm, that the particular photos above, came from a car from a specialist dealer in huddersfield, but not shaks. I never implicated them, just showing what you can and has been found. To set the record straight, i'll say the facts. This particular example came from Lewis James of Huddersfield. Who may or may have not been innocent.

The moral of the story is always get a car you want to purchase inspected, by someone who knows what they are looking at. With a leakdown test, and a head stud check if possible. This particular example had 90% leakdown on one cylinder, and was blowing at the cylinder/head mating point on all three on the left side, and that is just 50 miles since purchase (but quite a few years, don't ask, no leak down test undertaken prior to purchase).

That includes buying a car from any of our dear own, including myself (I sell 1 to 2 cars per year). If anyone has a problem with it, then move on to another.

Further use this forum to get further opinion from the photos. Any of us, could have spotted the inherent problems with the last two pics from the living room. Unsurprisingly the fan belt was loose.
