Stock 914 exhausts

Post by Bruce M »

Hi,

Has anyone got any good photos of the inside of a stock 914 exhaust. Mainly interested in the 2.0 banana layout but would also be interested to see how the 1.7 (with angled tail pipe) is designed.

I suspect Kev is the most likely candidate :)

Thanks!

The stock 2.0 exhaust is almost the same as the 911 unit, just has different inlets.

Thanks Kev, do you also know if:
The inlet pipes just end at the casing or do they extend inside?
Do each side's primary pairs combine in the first chamber?

Thanks :)

What I really want to know is can I modify the stock 911 muffler to look and perform similar to the GT muffler.

I removed my 2.0 banana today. The inlet pipes poke slightly inside. Difficult to measure but around 1cm at the most.

We chopped up an original 2.0 Porsche item recently. Like the standard VW beetle exhaust the primary pipes are arranged inside the box so that they are of equal length despite originating from 4 different points on the engine. This is very important to performance, particularly torque.
