There are better ICs available for sensor inputs these days so perhaps it will have some improvements in that area.

Integrated Circuit... Ie a "chip". There will be an input stage in the ECU that will effectively convert the VR signal (AC, with variable voltage & frequency) into a cleaner signal, similar to what a hall sensor generates. In the microsquirt docs it's referred to as a 'conditioning circuit' and its explained fairly well.

Got the new ECU (with improved circuitry) through the post, plugged it in, loaded my map. Then I removed the in-series resistor wire and off I went. Drove fine. If anything slightly smoother.

Remember previously without the resistor wire in it would cut out at 4800 rpm. I have to go through built up areas until I can get to open roads and take it up to the limiter. On the way there and in a 40 zone a boy racer was up my chuff. The lights up ahead changed to red and I pulled into the left hand lane - he darted out into the right hand lane. As the lights changed and I childishly blew him into the weeds I realized the new ECU was working as it dawned on me that I'd just gone over 5K in 1st (didnt speed though)

Eventually got out to the countryside and ran it up to 5500 in second - no problem so far..... Changed into third and kept going - I was struggling to find a long enough straight. Eventually took it well over 6K in third - up to near 7K. Turned round at the lights and repeated the process on the way back - the proper rev limiter cuts in at 6500 - 6800 (not sure which) and a damn sight gentler than what I've been experiencing.

I suppose it is but I get the impression that it's wired up differently (maybe some new components?) to get around the problem of the large multi-toothed signal wheel (Shirish had the same problem using Motec - Neil Bainbridge had to install a clewitt crank sensor under the fan belt). From memory he said the problem is probably earth related but tracking it down can be a nightmare. The rewire gets around that problem somehow (spoken as someone who generally regards electrics as magic soup)

Rich - no the guy said he'd alter mine for £50 plus VAT. Then when discussing how to make that happen he just said he'd send me a new unit already improved in return for my own. Also said if it didn't work then he wouldn't charge me! Fantastic customer service from David at Canems
