911 steering wheel in a 914

Post by 23e Heure »

I have a 380mm 914 wheel that has been drilled and tapped and had the indicator cancelling ring added, so that it can be fitted to a 911.

- If I wanted to fit that to my 914, does it fit straight on?
- Or do I need to 'undo' the work that was done to make it fit the 911?

Also...
- If I were to want to fit my momo prototipo to the 914, do I need a different hub adapter / boss to the one I am using in the 911?

Definitely a first world problem: deciding which steering wheel to fit to which car!

James, if I recall correctly, the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder steering columns are different - if you are using a Momo wheel, you'll need the specific 4 cylinder boss.

914/4 has a VW-derived column (with ignition key on column), while 914/6 has an early 911 column (key on dash), so yes the two are different.

Thanks guys.
Yep, still has 914/4 steering column.
So I would need a different boss for a momo.
How about the 380mm steering wheel that has been converted to fit a 911??

Or you could swap your 380mm Porsche wheel for a nice period Momo wheel (plus cash ....) and buy the right boss
The force is strong in this one ......

Pretty sure that logically the wheel will need to have the modifications back dated to fit back on the 914 ....why not just try it and see..!

To fit the 380mm wheel to your 914 you'll need to remove the 911 cancelling ring & add the black plastic 914 'spacer' (4 screws) & 914 cancelling ring (3 screws).

Also, there are 2 different 914/4 Momo hubs - one for cars up to '71 (hub model no.8000) & another for '72-on models (hub model no. 8002)
