Headlight fixing types / compatibilty

My US spec '74 911 was originally fitted with 'sugar scoop' headlights.
As part of my restoration I am fitting two 'new' wings, and as I haven't decided which way to go on my headlights yet I would like to keep my options open if possible.

My original headlight bowls had 4 + 1 headlight fixings, but my new ones are Euro spec and have only the one bottom fixing hole. I understand that to fit the 'sugar scoop' headlights I need the four fixing brackets in each headlight bowl.

My question is do the four US fixings interfere with the fitment of a Euro spec H4 headlight ?

If anyone knows the answer please let me know.

I've imported ~ a dozen early 911's from the US over the years & converted each of them to Euro lights (mostly H4's).

It's quite a while since I last did this but don't remember having to remove any of the retaining tabs.

Great that's the reassurance I was looking for Andy - much appreciated.

I was coming to that conclusion as I spotted in one of the other restoration threads four fixing headlight bowls but Euro lights.

Headlamp buckets with four fixing tabs are 1968 one year only buckets for pre 74 cars. They are rare.
I have no knowledge of post 73 cars or sugar scoop fitting so I can't answer your second question. It could be your current wings are replacements (you can tell if they are 68 wings from other features) or that 68 buckets have been fitted into your original wings.

From late 68 onwards all wings in the pre impact bumper era lost their four fixing tabs in the headlight buckets.

All the new 911 LWB wings that we buy, whether pre-73 or IB have the 4 tabs fitted. Even US 964s use the 4 screw fixings, so they are not rare. The lights units are freely interchangeable.

Mike - the US-spec headlamp buckets had 4 x tabs for retaining the sealed-beam headlight units used in conjunction with the 'sugar scoops':

so they are not rare.

They are if they were made in 1968. One year only part.

Thanks to everyone for their input - I think I am pretty confident now that having the full set of fixings covers me for all my future options.
