T vs S spec MFI
Hi all, this is my first post and will easily demonstrate how much of a 911 novice I am. I just bought a 1972 911S project. It doesn't have its original engine but has a year correct S engine that someone equipped with carbs. I want to convert it back to MFI so it at least looks correct if not with the original engine. I am assuming that finding a full S spec MFI set up is going to be difficult so I wondered how easy it would be to convert a T spec MFI into S spec? What would need to be done? I am assuming the MFI pump at the very least would need to be rebuilt to S spec. What about the rest of the set up, what would need changing and how easy it is to do. I realize all things are possible if you throw enough cash at them but I am trying to achieve this at a reasonable cost so am happy to do what I can and farm out complex stuff to experts.
Your thoughts would be gratefully received. Also if anyone has a surplus S spec MFI set up lying around, happy to go down that route cost permitting.....
Be gentle!!!
Thanks
Andrew

Throttle bodies & plastic stacks would need boring out to S specs - I've had E versions modified to S specs by Supertec in the US in the past - I think Alan Drayson at Canford Classics here in the UK can provide this service.

I just spoke to Nick Fulljames of Redtek. He can carry out any machining for you. He has a set of T stacks bored out to S specs, and is checking his stock for TBs and a pump.

Thanks Nick - in the spirit of transparency, and further illustrating my lack of 911 knowledge, I should confess that I hadn't even spotted that it had carbs instead of MFI until you pointed it out from the photos! Look forward to hearing if a whole kit can be assembled! Sounded like the airbox was going to be a problem?

Re: T vs S spec MFI
You will need to confirm it still has the S cam in the left hand bank that it either has the drive wheel for the pump still on it, or if, more likely, the wheel has been removed that the cam has the mounting for the wheel and hasn't been changed to a non MFI cam
Cheers

Re: T vs S spec MFI
the engine will need a full rebuild as it currently doesn't run. Its free to turn by hand but that's about all I can say so I am sure it has the wrong cam and is missing the drive wheel! I am assuming the worst so anything I find to be ok is a bonus!

Re: T vs S spec MFI
will post some schwimmer photos this evening. That spent 3 months in the body shop having holes converted back into metal! I once parked it next to a modern 911 in a supermarket car park and bemused the 911 owner by telling her it was also a Porsche.... not sure she had seen 'large machine gun' in the options list for her own car.

Re: T vs S spec MFI
Andrew
A few options,
I have a complete disassembled 2.4S engine including all the Mfi. Really only for sale complete.
I have a few plastic air boxes with clips.
I have lots of other mfi parts including MFI pumps, lines, pump mounts, throttle bodies, stacks, cams, shrouds, pump pulleys, flapper boxes, linkages, crossbars, injectors, bell cranks but not all necessarily S. Some new parts but mostly original/used.
Regards
Mike

Re: T vs S spec MFI
So here is the schwimm……. hope you like!
She is my pride and joy. Highest body number so technically the last of the line. According to the marque experts, she was most likely 1 of 6 built by the British in 1946 using parts found in Wolfsberg factory for post war evaluation purposes. I bought it as a wreck from a guy just south of paris who had owned it for 20 odd years and done nothing with it. Been to Normandy twice (60 and 70th anniversaries) - super reliable and super popular with the natives. If i had a Euro for every kid (and his dad) that wanted to be photographed in it or next to it……...
If i ever left it anywhere for 5 mins, this is what would happen.
And before you ask, yes it does…..
