Steel Wheel paint

Post by Gduplock »

Have just got four 5.5J steel wheels for my 1968 911L Sporto. Currently wearing 2/73 6J x 15 Fuchs with 185HR15 Vredenstein Srint Classic tyres which look to big. The car should have been supplied with 5.5J steels as the Porsche certificate does not list Fuchs option.
Can anyone tell me what paint colour the Steel wheels should be as the two 1970 ones are different colour from the later ones. what modern colour would best match.
I am intending to put 165HR15 Vredensteins on the steel wheels. Any comment!

Hoping someone can advise

stoddard sell a wurth silver for this exact purpose (just google or check stoddard website), which you can get from wurth, ebay etc. I bought it for the same purpose, but i found it a little too silver for my liking, and in the end i gave my wheels too a local shop to refurb and just chose one of their colours which they recommended for common "60's" silvers (they had 15 varieties of silver!). I'll never know if its right but I was happy with them. No pics im afraid as the car is gone =(

You probably know, however, just in case...

The 6x15 rims should be fitted with 185/70R15 which has a shorter sidewall & overall diameter than the 185r15 (circa '80' profile).
